Im using ableton live 8, the effect im looking for is displayed well in this song:

youtube.com/watch?v=E0byNKhTrqg

Starts at 0:35 , a clear version of it at 1:50.

Basically im just wondering how to do this effect to vocals. Im fine with external tools.

Its just a small sample of the vocal looped and faded out.

Yeah just loop a section of vocal, sidechain it, and add a bit of big room reverb.

Alright, thanks guys! Well try :) . Big Room really did the trick.

chop the original vocal at that exact spot, sounds like its chopped at the "AH", paste it on to your track and repeat at intervals you want it done, sidechain and reverb with some automation

ableton is compressor to side chain as well, you lower your threshold to chain how ever much you see fit. Its the little arrow tab next to the top left of where you can enable disable the compressor.

You can also use Ableton's Autofilter to sidechain, although it will provide a different effect. You'll see the same arrow tab with it. Little known fact :)

Also, you can make a pseudo-sidechain effect with the Autopan and by setting your phase to 0. Experiment.
