Hey all,
A few days ago posting a thread about needing help with my CDJ 900s and Adv. HID mode.
Since I wasn't able to get any responses, I thought that my cables might have been the issue. So, I went out and bought new cables.
When I when to plug in one of the cables in the back of the CDJ, i noticed that it fit a lot looser. I peeked in the back and noticed that the USB hub is missing a piece!
I included pics for reference. Notice how one CDJ has a little black piece in the middle of the USB slot and the other picture, it does not....
I think this is the issue to my problem.

Since I bought these CDJs separately off eBay, I am not covered by any kind of warranty...
what I want to know is how much would this cost to fix and where I could get this fixed?

Thanks!

you are covered under ebays buyer protection if the seller did not disclose the damage on the item.

here's the part info...I would ask seller to refund the cost of part + shipping & labor

USBA ASSY is not the part, the part usba assy is the top usb port, not the back, the back usb port is on the main board unfortunately and it's $260 (dwx3019)

I had the same issue with a 2000 a while back. It is a spendy little board that needs to be replaced. The 900 may be different, but here is a 2000

Circled in RED is the board that needed replacement, although I just replaced the whole bottom of the CDJ with a new one. ;)

If returning the CDJ doesn't work, is there any possibility you can buy a similar USB connector and solder it on?

eBay sells replacement USB ports for Traktor S4s for like 15 bucks. If the port is all that's broken, it's a simple solder replacement...

just make sure the 4 solder points are on line out the back, not underneath, There are a couple of kinds. From the look of the board above you want this:

NOT this:

Didn't I hear $300 to $500 to fix on that other thread? That sure sounds like a dishonest price.

i spoke with the guy, he is going to repair it all for $200 bucks. I don't have the soldering tools to do this properly, so I think I'll just fork over the cash =/
Thanks for the input everyone

Aw man... you're getting ripped off hard...

Soldering is VERY simple and you can buy a cheap 15 dollar iron to do this... you don't even have to buy a Hakko or Weller...

yes, if you have no soldering skills whatsover, the new board is very expensive. If you want to take the shot and solder on a new USB port on your own, it's like $15 for a new port. The usb port is the easier one of the 2 to solder, if it was the ethernet port then maybe some more people would shy away

the way i look at it is, the board is already broke in a way, take a chance and solder in the new usb port, IF it doesn't work out, Then buy the new board. or worst case, find a local repair shop that can just solder on the new usb port if you provided it for them, i cannot see them charging you much labor

keep in mind too, on another thread you read, probably on the pioneer forum, there is little tech support they will allow you to discuss before they lock the thread and tell you to just have it fixed by an authorized repair shop thats why some of the answers are very short there like "Just replace the board"

the new board is very expensive. Ohhh. OK, that makes sense.
NOW I CAN believe in that $500 price tag to fix. A new board. Yeah of course. For a CD player that cost $1000 to buy

Welcome to the world of repairs. You can be charged ridiculous amounts for labour!

One example is my phone, i had a nasty crack in the screen, and i cannot stand cracks. The digitizer to buy it off a website would have been <£10, I was charged about £60 for the repair, but just gave them the money to fix the phone, mainly because in order to replace it, i would have had to take the entire phone apart, and i am not gutsy at all!

It's terrible how people can charge far more than they should have to for repairs. But, what can you do?

It's expensive to run a repair shop, it's expensive to get the training and certification to safely work on electronics (especially small stuff), and every billable labor hour usually has to support at least two hours or so worth of operational overhead. Diagnosis is generally not billable labor, looking up problems in service literature is not billable labor, cleaning the shop is not billable labor, getting out and putting away tools is not billable labor, but all those things need to happen. Moreover, that doesn't even begin to consider standard operating overhead like electricity, rent, advertising, shrinkage/no-pays, and capital equipment.

Having replaced the screen in several phones and cameras myself, I can tell you that it takes around an hour to do everything safely and properly (not counting time to get out and put away tools, clean the workspace, etc.) By today's currency exchange rates, you paid around $77US for the labor on your repair, which sounds just about right for one labor hour. If you don't like it, spend the time and money to train yourself as an electronics repair technician.

On a different note I have a pair of Hercules controllers one is 4 years old ( the original RMX) and been gigged with heavily and I don't have this problem with either. Be carefully with your electronics and it should last. Or Pioneer is using some shoddy parts.

Mine sit in a coffin and have been taken out maybe 4 times since I have put them in.

Same thing happened with my CDJ-2000. Luckily, I had a damaged CDJ handy with a USB board that was working. It is not hard at all to swap the board out and self-repair it. I am considering purchasing a new port to solder on though just in case it happens again. You would think for such expensive decks this wouldn't be so delicate!
