Texting Short codes...

One of the local restaurants here has a short code thing that you text and then you can get discounts and random things or free things here and there...

I also know one of the local clubs here has a text short code thing, where you text it and then they text you back with a message saying you save $x ammount at the door when you show this text. and then later you get texts about their upcoming events and things, but you can always reply STOP and then it stops.


does anyone know how this works ?

how much does it cost a month ?

can you run it yourself with a spare computer and the internet ?


anyone have any more info... im looking into something like this if its not too much .

If you google "sms message blast" or "text blast" there are alot of companies that do this and will set it up for you. I think most charge in group packages. So up to 300 people will be so much then 301-500 will be more and so on...

What you'll need is an SMS gateway provider.
From what I've read, they all deal in high volume and shortcodes are not cheap.

this one looks awesome except its PC only... trying to find a mac version or something cheaper....

but yea, thats what I want to do... basically hook up my cell phone to the computer and go from there.

no im looking for a program to mass text everyone through my phone like the fire text program, also those vote features and things are pretty dang sweet as well. i could use some of them.

True although 10 digits is harder to remember than say 4 or 5 and
do you really want everyone to have your phone number? They can't
call the text code they can call your phone at any hour of the day

Its ok if everyone has my number, its just for business so its all good. I was going to make a banner or project it on the screen the number to text so that way they wont forget it and will be able to do it easy. the short code way seems like its way to much money to do, and this option seems cheaper. Im just trying to find a mac compatible solution.

trust me short codes work great, they cost a little but aye it cost to be the boss.
we use the with the promotion companies I do work for and it makes life so
easy because more than one person can send the info out and you don't have
to sit there and do it all from your phone.
