Speakon doesn't require soldering, all you need is a philips screw driver.

Unless you're referring to the speaker jack side instead of the actual cable, if so then you can get away with using blue terminal crimps.

Keep your speaker wire gauge in the proper range is basically all you need to worry about with that but really dampening factor isn't too much of a concern. It has to do with the amount of control over speaker flutter once the speaker reaches its' resonant frequency, it's been awhile since I even gave it any thought (early Crown Macrotech days when Crown used to hype it up in their amp manuals). If I remember correctly it has to do with the variance of resistance presented by the amp in relation to the driver & in turn the wire interconnecting the two with the higher the dampening factor of the amp the better control of speaker flutter it will have.........(if I remember correct).

In my travels, 1/4s are soldered on. Use a 100 watt soldering gun to heat up the joint quick enough so that you aren't sitting there burning up the insulation while you wait for the solder to be melted into the joint.

The only unscrewable part is the handle shell, which is either plastic or metal.


RE: Speakons connectors w/ screw terminals... On the cable side of an NL4-FX (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=092-190), it's a #1 Pozidrive or #1 phillips.

On the panel side, Neutrik NL4MP-ST (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=092-053) allows you to screw lug the wires into the back. Parts Express (http://www.parts-express.com/wizards/searchResults.cfm?srchExt=CAT&srchCat=127) has both types of Speakons mentioned.

The NLT4FX (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=092-337)is a reverse-gender connector that works with the NLT4FT (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=092-341) and allows you to also make custom speakon leads, such as NL4-1/4, or banana (Amp side) to Speakon and allows you to use NL4 to NL4 cables exclusively.

Nice eye, Im Gonna run a gig soon and im gonna have a IPR 3000 With a Left signal Split for both channels and And a IPR 3000 right signal Split and the subs signal on a peavey cs 4000.

I think Peavey slipped up a little with not including a basic stereo, parallel mono switch onto the standard IPR 3000 since it's included as a DSP feature on the DSP version.

I see you have the Neutrik connectors for your amp side, do you eventually plan to transfer your speaker side to all Neutrik as well?
