Before I start this out- I'm not intending this as an advertisement - I don't sell the stuff. I'm just trying to pass along some info on speakers.
I was checking on some prices the other day and discovered that Renkus-Heinz CFX line of powered speakers costs much less than I thought. I think it would work well for some of the posters here:

The 12" 500W (real, non-BS watts) active is around $1,600. The passive version is only $600 or so. R-H is a premium company that makes nothing but good loudspeakers - I had assumed (incorrectly) that all their 12" loudspeakers were over $2k (like Meyer). R-H is used a lot by acoustical consultants for high end install work - I have had good results with them in the past.
If anyone is looking for a serious business, professional loudspeaker or an increase in sound quality over the entry level stuff like QSC K series, RCF 312s, these might be a good bet.
Also, if you want the networked version of the 12" (at $2k), it's really cool. You take Ethernet from all the loudspeakers and plug them into a switch. You take a CobraNet line out of your console into the switch and now you can assign audio anywhere. DSP is built in. Probably overkill for most DJs, but an incredible technology for large venues.
