View Full Version : Soundcould Upload Issue

So I was dicking around and made and mix of mostly late 90s and mostly French house. It turned out halfway decent and wanted to share it with a few friends, so I tried uploading it to Soundcloud. However, I encountered a "content protection" issue over the beginning track (Scott Grooves - Mothership Reconnection [Daft Punk Remix]).

If I set the track to private instead of public, will it allow me to upload?

Are there any ways around it... like adding an intro to the front?

(PS - wasn't sure if this was the right sub-forum to post in. Feel free to move if it wasn't.)

Cheers!

Heeeey! Look who's back :D

And yeah, this is a useless post since I'm not sure about the answer to your question

This is why I have my own space to host mixes. Don't know of a workaround myself.

When this happened to me, I e-mailed Soundcloud letting them know that this mix was not used for capital gain and that all tracks were purchased legally blah blah other legality stuff blah blah, and I also didn't give people the option to download the mix. That worked for me.

Terve!

As a note, setting it to private does not appear to work.

Cool... I'll give that a try, though the entire point was to let those few people DL it so they can jam out in their car.

This is what they say about it on the dispute page, mentioning each of your points:

Invalid reasons to dispute a claim might include:

You purchased the track online and/or own the CD or vinyl
Buying a copy of a music track digitally or physically does not give you the right to share that music track on SoundCloud. Online distribution is a right that belongs to the copyright owner.
You only used a small part of the copyright work
Generally, if you are using someone else's copyright work, you need their permission to publish that work on SoundCloud, whether it's the whole work or just a small part (e.g. a sample).
You adapted the copyright work and created something new
You still need the copyright owner’s permission, even if you’ve created something new.
You don’t earn any money from it
You still need the copyright owner’s permission even if you are not making any money from it.
Other tracks on SoundCloud contain the same copyright content
Permission to use or publish copyright material is granted on individual basis by the copyright owner or their representative. The fact that someone else may have permission to use the same content does not mean that it is freely available for everyone to use. A separate license has to be obtained for each case.
It’s a free download
Some artists may give away their album or track as free download. You still need permission from the copyright owner to publish the copyright work on SoundCloud even if the copyright owner has made it available for free elsewhere.
You included a copyright notice or credit
A copyright notice or credit is often a condition of a license, but it is not a substitute for a license. You still need permission from the copyright owner, even if you give them credit.

Is there an alternate hosting site?

Know of an easy, cheap/free place to host?

I'd recommend a combination of DropBox and a Tumblr blog, I wrote a quick tutorial on this a while back mostly for friends, but hope this helps:

If your playing commercial-ish music owned by the big labels or their subsidiaries (i.e. Daft Punk), forget it. Tried to upload a mix with Disco Volante in it, DENIED, underground stuff is safe.

I heard Mixcloud was good too; though I haven't tried it out yet.

I'm curious to know how they detect this stuff. I'm sure it's some sort of specialized software that analyzes tracks for certain frequency signatures and checks against a database of submitted, corporate-approved music.

I wonder what would happen if it was a sampled bit in your own track, or if you degraded the sound quality enough to make it difficult for the check software.
