So I haven't really looked in the Beatport trance section in a while, because it was going downhill for a long time.

I just decided to check in on the top 100 for fun... and wow do I wish I had the past ten minutes of my life back. Every single one of these songs is fucking terrible, minus MAYBE two or three. Out of a hundred songs.

I think it's time to take our genre back.

Couldnt agree more, I skim though the Trance section but I only click on a few labels or artists that I know are reliable, and like you said about 90% is utter bullshit and should be in the electro house section. Its taking more and more effort to find good tracks, they are out there but it takes a lot of diggin.

Despite how it may seem, I actually like a decent amount of "popular" trance producers. Good music is good music, and I can't hate on good "trouse" if it's ACTUALLY good.

Sun & Moon, for example. It's a good song. I really can't hate it, as much as my psy-loving acid pounding chugga-chugga heart wants to :lol:

Here's what I do to weed out crap. Go to Bport -> Trance -> Tracks -> Page -> Random # between 3200 - 3411

But srsly for modern trance I just lookout for a few labels & names of stuff I like and put those on my follow list.

It is a sorry state for trance, but I think the times will change. Theres soo much good psytrance merging into regular trance these days, I think regular trance is gonna get a shake up.

I dont think I've ever listened to the beatport charts for a long long time. I find its much more rewarding browsing known artists' labels, and remixers.. You have a far higher chance of finding something that isn't garabge.

Yup, 100% agree. Trance is gonna go uphill from here, just wait. The psy/trance hybrid scene is making a huge push with all of the prog/tech/psy fusion tracks being shoveled out right now, and it's starting to take off. I can't wait to see where trance is a year from now.

I've heard some of the electro-trance-fusion stuff and it's fucking awful. As a former trance DJ (and one-time dabbler in electro-house) it's pretty shameful. Isn't Tiesto pretty much playing that now?

It's been a good 8 years or so since I followed the trance scene but every time I try to give it a chance I hear lots of these tracks, or just really boring stuff similar to what Armin was playing on ASOT in 2005, pleasant melodies and good production but no drive or edge at all. Hence I give up on it again for a long time.

yeah he is out of the trance game since 2009 and now plays the flavor of the month. regarding ASOT: armada has been stuck on the same sound for years and the radio show mirrors exactly that.
