View Full Version : What's the difference between $50 and $500+ USB- DMX converters

besides the fact that the expensive ones are like a box and the cheap ones are wires, whats the difference? i'm gonna be running my 7 channel roboscan 812s on dmx soon, probably in freestyler and hopefully on a $50 converter. bad idea?

Usually the pricier ones give you more DMX channels to work with, and might include some extra features, such as internal memory, support for multiple universes, Ir remote, ect...
I believe the Roboscans have 7 channels each? Meaning you need at least 49 channels.
You should probably be fine. Just don't buy crap off eBay.

Overall quality and longevity of the product come into account.. Also warranty and customer service..

I believe the really expensive ones you are looking at are the RDM DMX converters. I'm not too familiar with RDM, but I believe it sends out a 2 way signal, so it can actually send data back to you so you can figure out problems easily and find identify fixtures from it.
