Following his auspicious Thoughtless debut, Soft Spoken Trees, the mysterious Platypus returns with three fresh productions that emphasize his knack for organic arrangements supported by polished production. Argyle is a snapshot of cutting edge modern deep house, off-kilter organs pulsing along with insistent bass, hypnotic bells and syncopated percussion before the voice of Platypus himself croons, “How many times must we shift reality?” Seeking to answer this peculiar question, Montreal's Stefny delivers a deftly minimized after-hours interpretation laced with the psychotropic sound design that's helped define her work for Contexterrior and Archipel. The Streets Have A Voice adopts a more tough-minded approach, stealthily navigating overgrown sonic back alleys before turning the corner on more than one surprisingly expansive vista.
