Is anyone else here really bored of the lighting available lately? D: I'm just finding it really bland and boring now, no matter how much dmx, fun placement ect... is done at the end of the day its so generic and kind of fatiguing to look at. Anyone know of any smaller light company's that offer something different and fresh? Or know of any cool new lights coming out soon that don't suck? Im so bored of dot's and moving flashy gobo's and galaxians

Seems all the LED stuff is taking over and for the most part the only good from it is the LED par cans and some nice scanners or movers but the patterns do seem to just be reused a lot.

I think the next generation of lighting to hit the BIG shows will be projection mapping. Such as used in The Wall by Roger Waters.

They are highlighting buildings with it all over the place...

Maybe some clubs will start using it in the near future...

Of course... this is nothing a DJ could ever afford. Although I would not be surprised if Tiesto and others don't already use this.

^^^ Now that's what im saying bro, Those are awesome right there.

And it would be cool to see more of the projection mapping. Ive been seeing it around allot lately at our yearly exhibition (CNE) and a nightly show on the mountain at wonderland. Also didn't deadmau5 do something for nokia using this on a tower in london? Would be cool to see maybe a scaled down dj friendly version of doing this in the future.

You can do a dj friendly version of projection mapping, rather easily too. You just need the right software and a nice projector. The events I do frequently usually have a VJ to do Projection mapping, and does it for very cheap (he's actually doing it too cheap).

Instinct,

What kind of software would be needed to do the proper projection mapping in like the videos above? I am just curious as this is something way cool and new to me.

MAC - Modul8

PC - Resolume, also a cool utility called VPT: Video Projection Tool, and it's freeware.

Lots of movers with well choreographed programs are never when programmed well and setup right. And which macro scenes you can change gobos/colors/effects on the fly.
