View Full Version : Check out this all in one rig
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVtdEbnXzAQ&feature=related
First off props to anyone thinking outside the box. Second I gotta admit when the video first started I chuckled. I have to say the more I looked at this I started to be impressed. It obviously is not for everyone and would not work in all situations, but this guy actually did pretty good (IMO) at creating a all in one rig.
Its a one man setup and obviously it is not going up stairs without two people.
The end product is pretty good for school dances and such.

I think if it works for him good job. It is innovative but it has several short comings. The biggest being stated in the comments of the video is how unstable it is with all of the weight being put on two small table legs. The second is that it is very compact and small which is great for small areas or venues of that sort but in a large gym something more along the 10-15 foot range for a lighting truss and a 10 foot table would look better and allow more to be used because as I see it he does not have enough lighting to do a large gym at least not on the pre-made truss part. The other thing that I dislike about it is just leaving other needed lighting to sit on the ground well away from the booth where anything could happen. Other than those short comings it is a great idea.

Pretty cool, not sure that it looks all that professional, though.

I agree. Looked like a pile of mangled trash when he first rolled it in.
Also, as mentioned above, doesn't look very professional or stable. If it falls forward, you can say goodbye to all that equipment, and to the person who will be leaving in an ambulance.
And come on, it's not THAT difficult to set up a T-bar with some O-clamps.
But I give him credit for the idea, and if it works for him, then fine.

Depending on the job, I premount lights on a t-bar or 5 to 10 feet of i-beam truss. Then I hang it. Why couldn't that have been done instead?
A for effort though from an engineering standpoint. I remember this guy from the old forums but we scared him off. He definitely improved the design but its still not something I'd present or want to go through.

I've lost a lot of respect for people thinking that all in one rigs will work. I have so many different set up options and they all look amazing. I did like the effort that went into hiding cables on this rig though. I can't believe that that table is all that sturdy and would be worried about lawsuits from it falling on someone.

why do people opt in the first place for all in one rigs? it probably takes the same amount of time to unfold a table, put your coffin on it and wire you speakers together then go get your lights..

I give him credit for originality even though it isn't something I would do myself, however it is this frame of thought that he is showing that brings about new products in our industry. While we may not agree with this particular idea, it's the principle of this guy trying something new rather then just going with the flow that I admire.
I'd have to agree with Incognito. All in ones may not be the choice for most people but with the concepts that he's bringing forward it would not be that difficult to custom make a design that is much more stable, bigger, and would perform and act like the "usual" Mobile rigs we are used to seeing. This video shows what has always been an issue in this business or any business for that matter. You get what you paid for. Its clear that it is based off of a folding table with 1" tubing legs and wire shelving. With that amount of gear you can see that its stability issues are in question right from the get go as it sways back and forth when simply touched. Build a similar rig out of 2x2" aluminum square tubing or 3" diameter tubing for the base and slightly smaller for the top and its a different story.

If it works for him then great! but I would never do something like this.

I actually talked to him, he said it was plenty stable. But that's coming from him. I dont like the idea, because if you do a gig for just sound you still have this thing hanging over your head, and if you do sound and light for a band, you can't run your lights overhead and put your amps in the back

Holy inspector gadget batman!!! That looks like a hot mess.
To each there own, but making things easier for the DJ doesn't always translate into a good look for the client.
I will give him an "A" for effort.

That rig would instantly get the DJ kicked out of the majority of venues here, most especially the ones that require liability insurance. That is an accident waiting to happen. Kudos to the guy for creative building, but aesthetically, that monster is FUGLY.

Mad cool, but I agree that it does need a bit of development if you wanted it to be market ready. Maybe some LCD liners on the sides/wires. Make it look a little more futuristic. But, if it works for you, then props on successfully putting it together.

I feel for a room like that, the rig is too busy, 5 lights could do the job there. it's like getting two RCF 722as and a pair of JBL VRXs and putting them in your living room for a small 15 people get together, it's just a bit overbearing LOL
