Well... think of your music library as you would your penis....

It's not the size of the ship, but the motion of the ocean that matters.

That said... last I looked it was round 15,000 but probably bout 3,000 dupes and 1,000 dumb crap that needs to be removed.

I'd say for what gigs I've done so far 2000-3000 is maybe relevant; the rest is just personal collection from over the past 25 years.

LOL that you think that you've accomplished something. I'd rather have 200 tracks that I KNOW are high-quality than 100,000 that might be.

Besides 1.1TB is a beast to back up. I have a tenth of that and have never had a problem with gigs. To each his own.

I've been buying music since 1979, so while I don't know how many tracks I have, it must be quite a lot!

got about 800 songs in my "crate" that i will use. other than that eh i got a ton of music that i haven't gotten around to warping. i also have a couple of hundred pieces of vinyl, couple of hundred cds and a lot of old stuff on old hard drives that have crashed.

pretty much i think the "crate" should be tight, nothing but heat.

Right around 200 at the moment. I've pretty much reached an equilibrium of new stuff coming in & deleting older stuff I never play anymore.

I have around 3,000 songs that are all in great quality, Organized and all have the correct tags and pictures etc.

I don't buy complete albums. Considering I actually PAY for my tracks I only get the best songs. You cannot tell me that you have 1-2TB of LEGAL material that you have bought.
Come on people....Support the artists that hardly make ends meat. They need you to pay for their rent so they can bring you more tracks.

134GB

EDM, Rock, Hip Hop, Classics, Chill etc also a lot of Dj sets & podcasts in there too, I'll be honest, I only started buying my music when I started mixing, before that it was all D/L.

For mixing I prob have around 12GB give or take a few.

True that!

Lol I actually have between 600-700 records, and then probably a 1000 maybe less on my hard drive. I kinda of only play one genre and my old school shit is vinyl and most of my new stuff is digital. I have some tracks that are house and etc. just to keep others happy.

I deleted my entire music library (25GB) 4 months ago and started from scratch.

Currently at just over 60GB (7000 songs), average bitrate is 314Kbps due to a few albums being 256kbps.

But most are 320kbps and all have been individually tagged + they all have their Album art. :)

If you can't tell he probably has about 1/4 of that in actual different tracks (as opposed to instrumentals, acapellas etc...) which would be right around what you have.

How long did it take you to organize all that???

Holy sh*t that's a lot of Vinyl's!

Thank you very much! I call it the "Wall of Records." Organizing them took a long, long while... in fact, the "reorganization" that was taking place in late 2010, whenever this picture was taken, still hasn't officially been completed, but I'm getting there. :)

The current basic layout of the "Wall of Records" is like this: There are 42 main cubes - seven columns and six rows, not counting the wooden cubes at the far right.

The first three "columns" are commercial and promo releases by various artists - mainly 12-inch singles. The next columns over, extending into the wooden cubes, are filled with remix service issues, like Ultimix, X-Mix, Hot Tracks, Disconet, etc. I'm an obsessive remix collector, so I tend to try to track down every rare/obscure mix that I can find of the songs that I like.

The "Wall of Records" was something I constructed back in 2001, when I lived in a decent-sized apartment in Tulsa. The metal "cubes" are really just supposed to be stacked a few units tall, to be used for organization by college students, etc. However, I decided it would be cool to buy a slew of them and reinforce them with hundreds of high-strength zip ties. Amazingly, it worked.

In 2005, my fiancee-at-the-time and I moved into a town house, so that whole thing had to be torn down and moved. About two and a half years later, she and I bought a real house... so that whole thing, again, had to be torn down and moved.

The current, third version of the "wall" is heavily reinforced, bolted to the wall with a set of metal brackets. I'm especially glad I did that now that Oklahoma has been experiencing earthquakes!

Here's a picture of part of second incarnation of the wall, back in 2006:
http://www.djbadger.com/Visions/djbadger_w_vinyl_sum2006.jpg

The 49 cubes (42 metal, 5 wooden) hold about 60%-70% of my total record collection. I also have several crates of duplicates, battle records, etc., and there are two large shelves in the room specifically dedicated to my Depeche Mode vinyl (200-300 pieces, if I remember correctly from the last count).

I have been DJing for over 20 years, and from a collector's point of view, I have been extremely fortunate. Thanks again for the kind words!

All this brings me to the question, how have you all with less than 15,000 or so tracks came up with the best tracks? How do you hardly ever get stumped on requests, also? I seem to get "b-side" requests that nobody in their right mind would have in a 15,000 song collection. Obviously, I have all the billboard tracks from the 70s till now. That saves my cookies a lot of times, but I still get a lot of stuff that was never "popular"?

I, been collecting vinyl since 1988.at one point,I may have had around 5,000 records easily.I streamlined my collection last summer, and got rid of most all of the non-dance stuff (rock,pop,easy-listening,show tunes etc.).so,now I have around 3,000 record.mostly "garage" classic, house,Tribal house.I have around 150 CD's(mostly compilations).I have a Sony CD burner, and recently purchased a audiophile m/m phono preamp,so that I can eventually archive my record collection into wav/or mp3 files.:music:

My total for DJing purposes is below the 700 mark. I'm almost certain about that.

I torrented and downloaded illegally for the longest time. Eventually once I got into DJing I figured it would be right to buy my tracks legally in the event that I ever pursued gigging. Once I made the decision, I navigated to my music folder, hit delete and emptied the recycling bin.

My general listening music is probably around the 200 count.

I'm glad I did what I did though. Definitely helped me realize the amount of junk music I had on my computer. (Though many would argue the tracks I have now are junk as well. Looking at you Smashy :argh:)
