Hi guys,

as i couldnt afford a flight case that was in 'battle mode' i decided to get some wood and do it myself. Which then just turned into an enclosure. but as i used it for a few years and bashed it up a bit i thought id post just a quick blog of how I refurbed it.

how it used to be at my uni diggs:

on wards and upwards though. i soon changed to a A&H Xone 02 and needed access to the front controls, so with limited tools i cut a nasty section out and made a bit of a mess! (no pictures thankfully)

so, when i finished with all that studenty stuff it was time for a make over.

so, i started rubbing it down and tidied up the section i cut out.

in primer and all tidy, i also cut a hole for the cables to run down.

i couldnt decide on a colour, and after many grand ideas of getting back into graffiti and attacking it, i painted it satin black....

the walls were lined with acoustic fabric and the base with some carpet i found in a cupboard.

i also inserted a plastic cable port from an office desk to make the hole cleaner.

and wrapped some dividers in the same fabric with cable holes.

and loaded up! with my new mixer. dicers are long gone now however.

and since building this, ive moved into my own place with the girlfriend, not much room to have it around though, so ive made use of the sideboard in the living room :D

thanks guys, hope you enjoyed it :) and that it gives people some ideas for their own builds.

But I would have kept the dicers. :)

yea they were fun, but needed some cash for a bill that snuck up. the techs and serato could be going in the cupboard soon too.

satisfied with the empath though :) at times i wish it had a few effects, but i never used them when i had the djm400...

thanks guys :) i must say i do like how clean it all looks on the oak sideboard, but man does it kill my back having to stoop.

I might build a new unit in the coming months that's taller, longer to get my laptop on there and deeper so i can have my turntables back in battle mode.

it wiggs me out having them horizontal.

real estate is an issue though! it might be a lush flat, but the slopping roof does limit how close you can get to some of the walls :P

Nice console! But you can get a flight case now for only $169 made by Marathon. It will SCRATCH the hell out of your home furniture though
so an X stand would be better to leave it on. Thats what I use and you can adjust the height with the X stand.

yea lol the girlfriend will literally rip my nads off if i damage her furniture.

unfortunately that side board is in the only suitable place that I can stand up.

As for X stands, I actually have one of these quiklok stands that i use for gigs where there's no suitable tabletop. Only problem is it does wobble a bit when i have it at the height i need and scratch.

decent bit of kit if you have it low though, and stack your flight cases and decks on it. It's ideal then, just a bit ghetto for my girlfriends tastes.
