This is dubstep?! #76 on Beatport? How can anyone listen to this whole thing. How could this dude even spend this much time producing this without wanting to bash his own head in?

Or do I just not like this because I've never been to a rave where they play this kind of music....

dismantle is hit and miss for me, i don't mind this too much but Computation is just stupid.

However his release on Terrain, 'Broke' and 'Times Up' is incredible, and much more obviously dubstep.

also the beatport top 100 dubstep tracks is a terrible representation of what good dubstep is
Juno's sales charts are a much better reflection of the best releases at the moment

Not my thing... But then again neither is Country, and people love that shit! Different strokes my friend.

I know why: because it's bordering on Tropical Bass and is probably around 140 BPM. They lump stuff like Kuduro and Cumbia and Tribal Guarachero in the "Dubstep" section, as well, for the simple fact that they're just not sure where to put them. They probably consider them too "fast" and "broken" to be put in the "Electro House" section, but don't quite consider them "Breaks" or "Techno" or anything else... so they just stick it all in with the Dubstep. They reckon it's all at the same BPM (and so few people look for this music), who really cares?

But if you do (http://soundcloud.com/bopeepbass/united-animals-bo-peep-has-lost-his-goddamn-sheep-mix) want to hear stuff in the same vein that's better... :teef:

New promo for another Tropical Bass release off of Isa GT's Etoro label. This one's from a Mexican duo called Waya Waya. Pretty solid Kuduro-inspired stuff, so I decided to post it here, because it falls in that ridiculously loose "Bass Music" category.

Oh yeah, Nguzunguzu are, IMO, the most talented US producers within the whole post-dubstep/UKG/Kuduro/Funky/Bass/Whatevathafukyouwanacallit scene.

Definitely two of the most, yeah. Kingdom, Dubbel Dutch, and Samo Sound Boy are also very, very high on my list.

Yeah, that's some Tropical Bass stuff that draws on Cumbia and Kuduro. If you guys are interested in actually learning about the history/artists/awesomeness of some of the Bass Music I listen to, I'd be happy to make a thread about it. Besides, it's what I talk about for The New Philadelphia all day, anyway. :P

this sounds like a Strictly Rhythm tune from 90's sped up and mixed with an ambient tune. i can imagine this being played at some old rave. it sounds dated but the percussion is nice

This track was off of Fade To Mind's The Claw - CDR (http://shop.fadetomind.net/product/the-claw-cd) (that's Kingdom's label, check it out). None of the tracks on the CD have names, or even marked artists. Heck, most of them are barely tracks in-and-of-themselves; more like samples and unfinished clips of tracks.

But the hidden gems are there, and this is one of them (Track 06). I've got a feeling that this was a Nguzunguzu and/or Total Freedom effort, because it's got that tweaked-out Cumbia rhythm.

Word, I'll get to it at some point tonight... hopefully. :P

Those Dismantle tracks posted earlier would sound better slowed down as moombahton.

I'm lovin this shit. People are calling it Electric Carnival, among a bunch of other stuff.

Computation, Redlight, Skream's "Somebody to Love" remix... It's all sick. Not sure how it should be classified though.

yeah I really don't get the dutch house influence that seems to be trending... why does that appeal to people?

A battle of more music that's kind of like Dubstep, but isn't, but is still kinda similar, but not really: WhoQE v. Subprime! Check it out in the Battle Forum and cast your vote for who had the best mix. (http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?4971-UK-Bass-battle-Subprime-vs-DJWhoQE)

The label is actually responsible for classifying the genre when they upload the release.

It's because the musical trend is getting ready for another bandwagon to lead/fleece the flock.

It seems to be a broken beat based trend, followed by a four beat trend, lasting 5 years of "popularity" cycle (even though the genres are around before that period/after that period of being on the radar)

genre / years of popularity / beat structure

nu school breaks 1997-2002 (broken beat)

minimal techno 2002-2007 (4 beat)

dubstep 2007-2012 (broken beat)

moombahton 2012-2017 (4 beat)
