I need (or rather, want) a new live sound mixer. My current rack mixer is a Yamaha MW12 (a USB-equipped version of the MG12). It's a fine-sounding mixer, but not large enough for the gigs I need to be able to accommodate.

As some might remember from ver. 1.0, my rig does triple-duty: church sound, live meeting/concert sound, and DJ service, so my mixer has to accommodate that. The MW12 calls itself a 12-channel mixer, but there's only 6 XLR inputs. I'm looking for something with more XLRs, but I'd like to stay within the confines of a 19" rack. I'd also like to keep the USB port.

Any suggestions?

This won't happen until after the amps, so I'm not sure what the budget is, yet.

This should do the trick http://www.allen-heath.com/UK/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?catId=MixWizard3Series&ProductId=MixWizard3162&SubCatId=

Nice (and Allen & Heath are some fine mixers), but no USB port. That's actually #4 on my duty roster...computer recording, which is why I bought the MW12 in the first place.

Hmmm. I've been using a PreSonus recently where I work http://www.presonus.com/products/Detail.aspx?ProductId=62. It's a nice sounding board, but it is digital, probably a bit more expensive.

I also know that A&H have an iLive surface that is rack-mountable. But once again, definitely expensive, and digital.

SAC.

Or an 01v96.

01v96. If you want digital in the $1,500 (used) price range 01V96 is the way to go.

actually, I don't at all mind an analog mixer. All Yamaha did with the MW12 is take their MG12 analog mixer and slap a USB port in the back, and route the main stereo bus to it. Not a lot of fancy options, but it does make computer recording cleaner than using the computer sound card line in.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep 'em coming. :)

The Yamaha 20, if it fits in the rack, would be PERFECT. Love the PV14 as well.

You're right about the MixWizard not having USB. I have one. However their lower level line, the ZED does. The ZED 16FX model has USB, 10 mic/line inputs, built in sound FX, 4 auxes for monitors, aux fed subs, or other uses, come with Cakewalk SONAR X1 LE bundled, and appears to be 10u rack mountable. Priced at $700.

I have yet to hear any feedback about the quality of the ZED series, but being A&H, I expect it to be a very good performer.
