For those of you that don't know BBC Radio One's legendary Essential Mix, Wikipedia says this:

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and features all styles of electronic dance music. Originally the brainchild of Eddie Gordon, the producer of the show from the first broadcast in 1993 to 2001. In 1993, after months of receiving weekly mix shows on tape-cassette, featuring New York DJs Tony Humphries WRKS 98.7 Kiss FM and Frankie Knuckles WQHT HOT 97 FM, recorded and mailed religiously by US Billboard's Dance Editor Brian Chin, Eddie advised BBC Radio 1 that a weekly dance mix show with DJs of different genres of music would offer more variety and the chance for the ever burgeoning UK dance music scene to flourish with new emerging DJs as well as the internationally famous. Eddie further encouraged the DJs he scheduled to flex their musical knowledge as the broadcast was not essentially playing to a dance floor but to people listening in their homes all over the world and that a high number of listeners were recording the show on cassette to listen to later.

The show has been hosted since its conception in 1993 by DJ Pete Tong who was also the first performer, broadcast on 30 October 1993. Every Friday late night/Saturday morning a two hour programme is broadcast, usually between the hours of 3 am and 5 am UK-time (the programme was previously broadcast between Saturday late night/Sunday morning 1 am and 3 am, and before that, between 2 am and 4 am and originally midnight and 2 am). The standard format of the show is an uninterrupted guest mix of two hours provided by an invited DJ, group or producer, introduced by Tong. The mix is usually studio recorded in advance.

The following link takes you to Mixcloud and shows all the Essential Mixes uploaded by individual users, not every mix ever recorded is available, but its a start.

Some of them are Flac files, which is a bit of a bitch. If anyone knows how to access Flac files easily and safely, then perhaps you could post the information here? I think most of the files are MP3 though, which is nice.

I use foobar which plays flac files nicely.

Also, I'd recommend the Essential Mixes for Daft Punk, Eric Prydz (especially the 2007 one), Laidback Luke, Ferry Corsten (2010 is really good), Boys Noize, Jack Beats, and Crookers. Top Notch Stuff.

+rep for finding this page. I will be listening to this forever provided that this page doesn't get shut down.

I've listened to the following so far:

1994.01.15 - Essential Mix - Sasha
Good tunes, but I think the file fucks up around 60 mins, it did with me anyway. Seriously old school Goa trance style Sasha though, its the birth of prog basically. Some of it sounds a bit dated, but its still good stuff whilst it plays well.

1995.07.16 - Essential Mix - LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad
Excellent drum and bass set from the Good Looking crew.

1996.04.28 - Essential Mix - Goldie
Classic Goldie and Metalheadz. Goldie even fucks up the mix about half way through, you can't get more Goldie than that, regains with an awsome tune though, think its Bukem's 'Music'. This is maybe my favourite set here.

1997.02.02 - Essential Mix - Marshal Jefferson
Classic Marshall Jefferson, just good times Chicago house

1998.05.10 - Essential Mix - Ashley Beedle
This is absolute quality, its a reggae set and it just oozes warm Jamaican sunshine.

1998.06.07 - Essential Mix - Jeff Mills
I've only listened to half of this so far, but its pretty brutal, with the usual quick mixing a-la Mills.

1999.02.07 - Essential Mix - Ed Rush & Optical
I really like this mix too, dark tech-step business, its seriously evil sounds.

There's so much stuff here, its going to take me years to listen to it all.

im listening to sasha & digweed's delta heavy tour episode. i forgot how much i absolutely loved this mix. after hearing it i kicked myself in the ass for not going to the houston show. no one wanted to go with me... i should have just ordered my ticket and hopped in the car and went. every time i listen to this mix it makes me want to turn all the lights off and just start dancing around in the living room. this mix is exactly what i like.

Nice find. Interesting to browse through and realize how well or BADLY some of these mixes aged in sound...and seeing the flow of people that had their 15 minutes and went poof, or continued to stay relevant. And damn does Carl Cox have a lot of appearances...especially around 1999, he was appearing every 3 weeks or so, haha.

Adam Beyer 2002...wow, that techno sounds like SHIT now. Couple good tunes in there, but wow. 909 HATS AND CYMBALS ALL OF THE TIME!!!!!! tstststststststststststtststststststststststststst tstststs

Harvey, 1998! Golden and timeless!

Felix Da Housecat in 1997...haven't listened yet, but I have high hopes. He really used to have great selection and taste. Poor guy sucks next level these days.

Exciting.

I've been listening to BBC's EM since 1998 and never stopped. I consider it the ultimate spotlight on the worlds most influential Djs/Producers. I was hoping someone had a collection I could listen to on the fly and here it is! Thank you so much!!

It's amazing how much the trance DJ's have changed their sound over the years. Listening to them mixing on vinyl and CDJs they actually sound human. With modern technology just about all of the professionals have 100% perfect mixes

GREG WILSON

seriously this is the best mix ive ever heard, disco, hiphop, soul, house, funk the only way greg knows how. absolute genius, even those who may not want to hear disco etc just give it a listen and see what you think, i bet your dancing round the room in 5 mins

also Lisa Lashes from about 6 years ago, full on breaks for the first hour into hard house for the 2nd hour. heller and farley are pretty good, the audio bullys rocked it the first 2 times too, droppin beats and mcing over the top, quality

I think my fav DJ to listen to, programming wise, is John Digweed. His style is perfect and always plays tracks that sound so underground, regardless of the genre. Also, the dude can mix a hellofa set.

Fuck's sake, why would anyone do that?

This shit needs to be publicly available for posterity I tell ya!

I've found some other links across the web, I'll add them to the first post over the next couple of days.

You can get loads of Essential Mixes on Youtube too, would be good if people could post their favourites here
