View Full Version : Reason people buy the DJM900 over the DJM2000?

After recently selling my DJM700 i'm looking to upgrade.

Besides the obvious reasons of the 900 having the classic Pioneer layout, Traktor Certified, the 2000 touch screen sucks and it hasn't had a firmware update in over a year is there any reason people prefer the DJM900?

I'm really stuck between the two, really edging towards the 2000 but still not 100% sure.

I have used both many times and I still prefer the 900 over the 2000. More user friendly and the effects layout is also more DJ friendly. :)

Thanks Nicadraus, +Rep for this. I understand that is why people edge towards it.. More user friendly and what people are familiar too. But this seems to be the main thing along with Traktor Certification? I have been getting quite irritated with the 700/800/900 effects layout lately, i don't know why hence why i'm considering the 2000.

Edit: Must spread some rep, sorry dude.

From what I've heard, pretty much everybody hates the 2000 touch screen. It's all gimicky, just gets in the way, complicates things ect.

The 900 is pretty simple to me, so adding some depth to the fx doesn't scare me too much...but I've never tried the 2000 so I can't really say if its over-complicated or not.

Beyond that, I know the soundcard integration is better on the 900, and I'm pretty sure midi functionality is better on the 900 too.

If the effects are the main point for you Liam, then I think the 900 may be for you. I have seen a quite a few DJSounds shows where DJs in the professional hierarchy explain how the DJM 2000 isn't intuitive when it comes to layout or operation.

For me, it is just that fkin touchscreen. I only used it for about 10mins, but unless Pio are going to put a top end touchscreen in that mixer, they can keep it.

Why don't you go try both Liam? I think you will see what the complaints are about.

Also worth keeping in mind: unlike the DJM900, the 2000 has yet to have a Nexus rendition. That being said, pioneer typically time DJM releases pretty close to their CDJs so I wouldn't be surprised to see a DJM 2000 Nexus here soon.

Sorry guys, totally forgot to reply to this..

Thanks for all the input, it definitely has got me thinking about things. I wasn't in a position to try them as the nearest store is 200+ miles away but i'm going to be in London this weekend so i'm going to try them both out and decide.

NR - I understand what you're saying, i have been in contact with my local DJ store (200+ miles away) which i actually have became quite good friends with and they said they haven't heard anything yet but it's not to say it won't happen (DJM2000 upgrade).

Adzm - Yeah i know what you mean about the touch screen, i don't really think i'd use the touch screen. It's more the effects which are getting me, not sure if i want quick pressing effect buttons like the 2k or the knob like the 900. But this weekend will see.

Which ever i chose you will see it in show your setup in the next few weeks. Thanks for the help guys +rep.

I just went through this decision making process. I chose the DJM-900.

I use Traktor and wanted to have full functionality versus the partial ability built into the DJM-2000
The primary reason I wanted to move to Pioneer in the first place was due to its status as the 'club standard'. I see more DJs using the 900 over the 2000
I already have a RMX-1000 so the effects component less of a factor.
Based on reports in the Pioneer forums, the 2000 is long overdue for a firmware upgrade. This seems to less of an issue for the 900.
The 900 was significantly less than the 2000 enabling me to put the money towards the CDJ-2000 Nexus.

Those were the highlights. Let's be honest. If the decision is between the DJM-900 or the DJM-2000, does anyone really lose? :)

Pioneer has had a few duds, this is obviously one of them.

Hi all, i have a DJM900 very solid mixer, great fx, traktor scratch pro DVS integration, now using the technics again :) , but its best feature is the way it sounds, (great sounding phono preamps) big improvement from DJM800, RE: DJM2000 some users of the djm 2000 have reported issues with colour fx knobs failing, also seem a few people on ebay offering to swap their's for DJM900's ??
