im from queens...where does ur uncle live in queens?? a lot of clubs are in the city 15-30 min with train, 20 min with car depending where ......the scene is ok nyc is more into hard house , tribal, progressive then anything in the edm scene.....nyc has many bars, lounges and clubs to go to i haven't even been to 20% of the city's places thats how much shyt we have...some place are into mainstream shyt depending wat venue you go to...

yeah im not sure where in queens he lives, but he mentioned i would have to take the train into the city.
Im going to attend dubspot for 3 months so im debating about renting a place in the city, or doing the trip every so often from queens into the city.
obviously want the cheaper method......so i think i'll be crashing with my uncle....but if it's far i may look into something else.
New York sounds like so much fun!

definetly does.........i need a new way of life for a bit. im getting pretty bored of my small city.
Yeah, same here actually. I live in a yuppy suburban community where the electronica scene is nearly nonexistant!

dude tell me about it......
Im from Niagara Falls, and our scene is SUCKS. and we have the tourists......but damn we need help.
plus everytime a new club opens up here it's great, and then it goes to shit......we get a lot of hick americans from across the boarder and buffalo area who seem to all be mentaly retarded. Don't get me wrong i don't mind americans, but people from buffalo smell funny ...... :P

the city is one of those places where some people can't get used to if theyre not from there. some people do end up loving it though.

I think I passed by dub spot a few times its in the 14th street area right?
Like Paul said don't waste your money or time on a dj school isn't like 4 grand for a 3 month session? Give me 2 grand I'll teach you everything they could and more and give you a guided tour of manhattan and queens and all the night life.LOL ...no seriously
Take my advice tho from another queens resident sleep in queens party and gig in manhattan . Astoria queens (which for some reason I have a feeling is where your uncle Iives) has alot of bars and lounges and even a few clubs you can check out and possibly gig but most of them are heavy on reggeaton and Spanish music . Again I say stick to manhattan for gigging and a better Edm scene . Its only a 30 minute train ride away from Astoria queens and 45 mins to an hour away from Jamaica queens where I live (which has no Edm scene at all ) and NYC transit is 24. Hours and the clubs don't close till 4am and some dance clubs 6 am
All in all good luck

dubspot is on broadway or something.,...can't rememeber the exact address.
im actually going to visit them in august and check em out....see what they are all about.
and it's an investment bro......i don't mind spending money on something that is going to help me in the long run.
plus i want to check out the audio engineering schools out there too..
I live in Shelby Twp. small Suburb town in Metro Detroit and the scene is pretty shitty, especially because I am only 16. After I graduate I would like to move to New York or Florida and hopefully find more opportunities and keep myself more busy.

To each his own but personaly I say if you own gear and know how to hook it up and use it you don't need a dj school but if ur a total noob then I say yeah go for it. Now audio engineering school on the other hand I would highly suggest . I want to go to school for that my self . City college in Harlem ny has a great program and u can earn a bachelors degree when you finish not just a certificate like other schools and its a city university so if you make under a certain amount of money you can get financial aide and go to school free
Me personaly if I was moving to another country and had the kind of money to pay for expensive dj schools I'd put that towards getting a place to stay and if I had a place to stay already I'd buy more or better dj / production equipment ,music and get with a few local DJs and practice that and youtube you can learn almost anything LOL
Also if you looking for a shorter program as city college Is a 2/4 year school you should check out SAE and IAR

yeah if you have a shit load of money or a good job lined up......im going to start out in New York First
Want to sell me your equipment before you leave? (since you can buy things for so much cheaper there!)
I plan on moving to Europe if anything... Really dont like my area (not many people listen to EDM, only the random kids that call any electronic music "techno")

I stayed in Queens for 5 days last month and took the train over to Manhattan, I was checking out record shops/night spots etc. Not alot of EDM wax to be found, none that I could find atleast. I did find ALOT of funk/hiphop/rnb/indie rock type record stores, a number of them in Williamsburg, Brooklyn were great. When asking store owners about house record shops in NYC most of them laughed and said "ohh really? I though that shit was dead?"
In short, there is a shitload happening at night in Manhattan and I am extremely envious that you get to live there for a while.
Have fun, don't worry about getting raped. I walked around all over at night by myself (white ass canadian kid) and didn't so much as a get a funny look, people were actually really nice and extremely helpful. Had some strange ass conversations on the train, that city really draws out the weirdos.
p.s. when in williamsburg try and find the surf bar/lounge and go eat/have drinks out back, it's got sand on the floor and out back, surf gear all over the walls. Take some pictures I forgot to. Was a cool little slice of heaven in the midst of some serious grunge.

it a seasonal town at best, good only from Nov thru June.just don't want to be caught there thru the Hurricane season.but don't get it wrong,Miami is a great spot only for short vacationing,or if you wish to retire from old age.and yes,you can say it over rated if you consider, that Miami has imported just about about everything from food to nightlife from NYC :D

Miami is great for EDM during WMC... the rest of the year it's pretty ghetto.
New York is a great city, but the club scene there is NOTHING like it used to be. Guilliani saw to that.

There's all kinds of music here, it's not all in major clubs though. There are lots of smaller parties and nights you have to look for. Once you get hooked into the scene for whatever genre's you are into, you will know about the events. Granted it isn't like it was just 5 years or so ago, but there is still plenty here.

Eaaaasy bro.
I went to college in Buffalo and I love it, I'm a born and raised Upstater. Now I live in the city and I couldn't love it more.
Queens is the city, but it's just damn far out. I dated a girl who lived in Queens. Taking the 7 line all the way out to Flushing, gives me a damn headache.
I don't know about all this EDM nonsense, but on the real, there is ALWAYS amazing things to be doing in the city. I couldn't recommend the move more.

Please elaborate before I move my ass out there from the windy city of chicago
i was born in queens but lived all my life in brooklyn until i turned 14.
i love queens. manhattan is way to hectict and expensive to live.
trying to get a parking in manhattan is as hard as trying to beatmatch 2 songs with marshmallows in your ears.
btw those 5 boroughs its just a downright meting pot youll find allot of clubs that play everything not only just edm.

I agree with the posters that Miami is incredibly overrated. Sure WMC is awesome, but the rest of the year it's just a huge "look at my plastic tits" scene. I grew up in the New Orleans EDM scene 1999-2002, and it was real. I mean it was a rave scene, not a club scene, and I definitely prefer the former.
Miami isn't really about the music, it's about super rich debutantes walking around with their 'roided out boyfriends trying to look glamorous. I actually hate it, seldom go down there (I live just north of Miami proper). I hope to make the move to NYC. Something tells me it will be more authentic and less commercial.
