....according to Lee Gamble UK artist Lee Gamble, part of the London/ Birmingham collective CYRK, speaks about 11 of his favourite 90s jungle tracks.

Some good tunes in here.

Anyone got any others?

Surprised there's no Good Lookin/Lookin Good up in there!

Otherwise a cool list. 'Snake Style', 'Rings Around Saturn' and 'Your Sound' are definitely some of my all time favorites.

Yeah man, where's all the Bukem at?

I found Logical Progression 2 for like pennies the other day, so I bought it. Got home, splapped it in the CD player and its like this shit still sounds like the future. Good Looking were way way way ahead, you can bet there's a Good Looking revival just around the corner, especially with all this interest in everything 90s rave & breakbeats going on in the UK at the moment.

A bit too much Photek in that list for my liking. Not his best tunes either imo. Jump MKII and Infiltrate are so much better

Bukem came after Jungle. I'd say he would be in the top ten of 90's Drum & Bass.

LTJ is the originator of the Atmospheric(Intelligent LOL) Jungle sound.

Can't believe I forgot Atlantis. I remember being 13 and raving so hard to this tune.

Contentious. Bukem was there pretty much from the beginning no? Though I would tend to agree that his sound is typically more 'Drum & Bass' than that you might these days associate with 'Jungle', but never-the-less surely Bukem has to be in there with the Jungle posse as well as the Drum & Bass crowd, maybe a bit like Grooverider or Fabio?

Yeah, he's one of the "founding fathers" of jungle/dnb. First release was in 1991 I believe. For a while Grooverider, Fabio, Hype and the like were cutting the same dubs as Bukem. Then the sub genres were created. Bukem went towards Atmospheric and everyone else towards Techstep, Hardstep and Jump up.

Looking back at this I have realized that I am old. Damn.

Yeah, I'd say he was one of the founding fathers of Drum & Bass, a lot more polished, jazzy. I suppose Jungle to me is more Ragga, Breaks based.

I LOVE this thread.

What time-frame would you guys put Jungle in? I wonder if it goes back as far as '89?

Finally! Now I know who produced this tune! And where's that sample from, the one of the guy singing at 2:52?

this is gonna bug the hell outta me

at first, I thought I knew - Shabba Ranks 'Caan Dun', then I thought it could be Shinehead, but although Billie Jean is sampled, it's the riddim. I've got a feeling it's Micheal Prophet, as he did a cover of Starvue's Body Fusion, also sampled. but I can't show why, and maybe I'm just imagining it sounds like him. If you find out yourself, lemme know!
