Well a pair of Shure M44-7 is only $140, so that's already pretty cheap.

You might want to try the Shure M35X, they're only $80 a pair. It's not a scratching cart, but it is classified as "high skip resistance".

yep 447s are great for scratching but have you tried qbert ortofons? i know there pricey but they actually track better than the 447s and have a VERY nice tone to them when scratching, there good for mixing too...i was a die hard sure m447 fan and swore i would never change but now ive tried these qberts i woud have to say that imo they are better...stick like fucking glue :)

Peace

Not really sure what the difference between a "Scratch" & a "Q.Bert" is, but the "Scratch" is a little cheaper.

Concorde = $242 a pair.

Shure WhiteLables LOVE THEM. They were around 200$ each but I think guitar center sells them for 130 a piece now

Shure WhiteLables LOVE THEM. They were around 200$ each but I think guitar center sells them for 130 a piece nowI use those & they sound a lot like the Shure M35X to me. Actually I think they might be the same cart, just the Whitelabel is the Concorde version.

They are $228 a pair at Guitar Center.

They share the same stylus but the cart internals are different. The Whitelabel has the internals of a V15 cart

The Whitelabel has the internals of a V15 cartThe V15 was my favorite cart when it was still in production.
A. You saw it used in a lot of Discos & bars.
B. It was a popular cart for home Hi-Fi systems.
C. It received a lot of praise in the stereo magazines.

The reason the Whitelabel is my favorite now is first & foremost it's a Shure.
B. It looks nice.
C. It's a Concorde.
D. Sound quality is good.

It really doesn't belong in this thread though. Since the thread topic is a cheaper option to the M44-7. And it cost 163% more than the M44-7.

Used to use Shure SC35C cartridges when I did an all-vinyl radio show at my university, not great for scratching but low record wear and good sound for about $40 a cart.
