Mixer stinks of smoke

Hi DJF,

Just manged to get my grubby little hands on a Rodec Scratchbox. However, the last owner smoked a lot of fags and the mixer STINKS of fags. Anyone got any ideas of how I can rectify this or is it forever tainted?? Many Thanks.

Maybe some ash from the cigs go into the mixer itself. Try taking off the faceplate and giving everything a good cleaning with some rubbing alcohol??? I would think that would work.

as above, no two ways: open it up and give it a good scrub.

I used to work in a second hand shop, I'd use the following tools:

screwdriver to open up duh
dry and clean paint brush for the dust
window cleaning liquid
roll of kitchen towels
cotton buds

needless to say, unplug before you start doing it, the window liquid works wonders: evaporates quickly and 100% efficient at removing all sorts of crap.

mix baking soda in a bowl of warm water. wipe down the mixer with a sponge that has been dunked in the warm water/baking soda mix. make sure to squeeze the excess water out of the sponge before you wipe everything down. you want the sponge damp, not dripping with water.

I don't know about using it directly on the electronics part but i've used hand sanitizer to clean things and it works wonders. I've used it on my computer, my decks, my mixer, etc.

trie dto clean my mixer BUT a major problem has arisen!! The fader caps won't come off the mixer so I can't open it up to clean it. Any ideas for opening it up without scratching it and getting the caps off?? cheers.
