Basically I heard a few djs using this over the years. Most notably Simon Patterson at global '10

Anyway it sounds like a minimal loop like just a kick drum maybe being sped up and the loop cutting shorter until you end up with a brrrrrr sound before dropping into another song or cue point. I've been trying to nail this but it's driving me crazy. Anyone know what I'm talking about and wanna share techniques?

Isn't that just the auto beat loop feature on the CDJs?

cutting the loop shorter and shorter, 1 bar, 1/2, 1/4 .... Changing the settings lets you keep cutting in halfs until you get the BRRRR efx your are talking about.

It's a Beat loop effect.

Example. Set a 32 bar beat loop... at 32nd bar cut in half.. 16 bar beat.. at 16th bar, cut in half again for an 8 bar beat.. at whatever bar you'd like from here on out (starts getting creative) you can cut in half to 4, then 2 then 1 (fast) and that's the "running stutter" (brrrr) effect. Then drop whatever beat you want, in time, after said effect. But you can also do some neat things like go from 1 beat to 2 to 1 to 4 ... echo out 1,1,1,1 DROP. (rough example)

So you wouldn't need to up the tempo?

The reason I ask is that when I half the loop it just doesn't sound smooth.

I want it to sound like its making a smooth bumpbumpbumpbumpbumbumbumbumbubububbbbbrrrrrrr!

Like the intro to one by SHM

no need to up the tempo. its just a loop getting shorter and shorter.

What are you using to try this out?

Pioneer s1. Maybe I need to stop being so pedantic with it.

I believe it was Erick Morillo who did the loop roll first and everyone copies. It used to be cool.... 5 years ago! now everyone does it.

Get creative with your mixing to build energy. Much better than epic knob twists or loop rolls.

I always thought it was the Gucci Mane plugin.
