If so what are your thoughts on it?

I need to pick up a new mixer soon and I've been pointed in the direction of The DJM900 Nexus. My mate works at Ministry of Sound said they had just bought 3 of them, and they are amazing qith sound quality on par if not better than the high end Xone series.

any input appreciated (and repped).

Well, I haven't used it, but it is Pioneer - it'll be fantastic.

I've used many DJM800s, and I'm sure you know exactly what they're like, it'll be top end in almost every way.
Expensive, yes. Quality, yes.

I've used it twice and I like it better than the DJM-2000 to be honest.

I personally own one now for a couple of weeks and i love it, my only gripe was they changed the way the echo effect works, It doesnt grab when the effect is activated, it keeps a trail of about 4 beats behind when you trigger it so the efffect now sounds like shit and hammers in too loud compared to the 800, really sucks now in my opinion. My other gripe was no rotary kit option but I managed to get my 800 rotary kit into the 900 :)

I'm looking to replace my mixer right now and I'm looking at the Xone: DB4. I've tried it out and the sound quality is great but the effects are MIND BLOWING. Also, the new firmware gives you a rotary mixer mode which switches the FX dry/wet knobs with the line faders.

the DB4 is sick, I was able to get a much better deal on the 900 though, plus I know pioneers mixers in and out so felt more comfortable on it

The DJM900 is just like every Pioneer mixer, after ten minutes of using it you feel at home and everything makes sense.

I use the 700/800/900 on a regular basis and i love the 900 far more than the other two put together! I think it sounds really crisp through a club soundsystem and the added effects are definitely a step up from the 800. I would also consider the DB4 but then again if you haven't had much experience with A&H then it is a risk. Also the price difference is a bit of a gap.

Anyways, if you had the cash, i'd drop it on the 900. Also the fact its Traktor certified is a bonus..

I recently used it a few nights ago. IMO, it is absolutely fantastic!!! Solid build, everything feels great even after it's been beat up and built-sound card which is ALWAYS awesome.
I haven't used a lot of DJ mixers, but Live and Recording studio mixers I have used many of them.
I also see a lot of big boys using them.

after using the 900, i personally don't have any need for the 900 over my 800.

Exactly my thoughts. I have used both the nexus and the DB4, and while the nexus is a very good mixer it didn't blow me away with the features is has over my 800, especially since I use SSL so the traktor certification doesn't help me. The DB4 on the other hand is a whole new world as far as I'm concerned.

Have used it quite a few times, good mixer. Although its just a updated 800, ddidn't ever really excite me all that much. I dig the 800 much more than the 900.

isolator guy as well, i really like the option to switch eq styles on it.

How would something like the 900 Nexus compare to a Xone:92?

I think the 900 has more to offer then the 92

The 92 is more comparable to the 800

How so? I'm really curious only because I don't understand the major differences. What does the 900 offer over the 92?

I'm in the market for a new mixer and the general opinion that I got from DJF 1.0 was that Xone > Pioneer.

They're different. The 92 is an analog mixer with analog filters. The 800 is a digital mixer with digital effects.

Ah okay, so that's the major difference then?

From what I understand, the only differences between the 800 and 900 are a couple new effects, the touch strip implementation, and the ability to sync your decks to the mixer, right?

Basically yea and has a built in audio interface / is traktor scratch certified.

There is also the EQ type option (regular or isolator) as we mentioned earlier

no, according to Pio spec sheets, the djm2000 and 900 have overall improved sound quality over the previous mixers

from the 2000 and 900

By utilizing balanced hybrid op-amp and a perfectly balanced output circuit in the analog processing stage, Pioneer managed to significantly decrease induced noise resulting in a dynamic range of 107dB with 0.004% THD for an extremely clean and powerful sound.

Sound Quality Design –The DJM-900nexus is equipped with the same audio input and output circuits as Pioneer's flagship DJM-2000 to achieve the most accurate audio reproduction from connected sources. The 32-bit digital to analog converter supports all outputs of the mixer, including the master audio outputs, booth outputs as well as headphones. Additionally, the built-in high performance 32-bit digital signal processor (DSP) suppresses any digital and analog circuit noise by way of high quality balanced hybrid operation amps and full balanced output circuits.

…which puts it on par with most budget sound cards. I love how their marketing decided that adding "perfectly" to something the name of something that's hard to screw up and mentioning words that are standard practice and that no one else bothers to care about…they have people quoting their literature on forums. As far as marketing goes, that's winning.

Also, if the converters are 32-bit float…it should have a hell of a lot more than 107dB of dynamic range. Like…a lot more. It doesn't matter, but still. Compared to its internal representation, that's either a really loud noise floor or a lot of headroom built in to try and compensate for moronic DJs who don't know how too run a mixer.

Anyway, they're definitely "good enough," but don't think they sound amazing. They don't. I'm not convinced any DJ mixer really sounds amazing.

I should also probably say that I just don't like Pioneer mixers. I can spin on them. They're fine. But I'd never buy one. I think they're overpriced crap assembled by monkies. The 900 is the first one that doesn't feel like a toy compared to similarly priced mixers.

sounds great to me, as did the 800, but neither of them compare to the sound of the original Urei or Bozak so I will take what they offer at this point since both of my original mixers are gone, For the price, the 800/900 and great mixers in my opinion. I love the A&H mixers also, but I think the DB4 was a little high and cramped looking plus I really wanted the rotary kit and not the what the DB4 calls a rotary by letting the wet/dry knobs be your volume, lol

My mate at MOS said sound quality is on par with the X92 now.

Thanks for feedback guys, wanted to get a few more opinions. Probably be a few months before I can afford to get one, I've got my holidays to get out of the way first.

Anyone using this with TSP and timecode for turntables with the internal soundcard? I read in the pioneer forums and some other forums that there were problems with latency among other issues. Can anyone chime in with a decent review? I was thinking about picking one up to eliminate bringing an Audio 8 with me.
