View Full Version : Is my identity/brand outdated?

So I am trying to get things up into the next phase of trying to resurrect my DJ career. I've tweaked out the website to something I am liking at the moment (http://www.pariscreative.com), I am starting to design up some new business cards, I am starting to network to see what I can do.
However my wife told me last night when I had her critique my business card she noted that she thought my name was too long (too many syllables) and my logo seemed outdated.

I created the logo about 6 years ago as a 2nd gen logo for my design company. Yep that name was Paris Creative. And my thought that I was going for the name at the time circa 2001 is that I could transpose the company name to any creative endeavor I when through. When I decided that I web design was no longer profitable, I retired that, some time passed, and then I really started to get the itch to get back into DJing (which really never went away).
So that takes me to this point. Is my name too "non-DJ"? Is my logo outdated?

To me it does instantly ring home with some sort of design company as opposed to a DJ. What genre do you play?

I like the name. I'm not sure about the P logo - I don't dislike it on its own, but then when I look at your website I think "that looks really good aside from that P logo at the top".

http://www24.zippyshare.com/v/29551520/file.html if you want to stick with the logo maybe just give it a 3d look like this or something, might look better on your website..its a tricky name to work with as you cant really put PC and the P on its own dosent really look like a dj logo unless you add something..:)

Hip-hop, R&B, funk, soul, pop, etc.

Point noted. :)

I am not sure if I am crazy about 3D. I always thought 3D and too busy designs were a bit tacky. However it seems there is some consensus that the logo does not quite click. Maybe I need to rethink it...

It's really not a bad logo man - it's just I think you could do better, that's all, but that's just one opinion. I would only change it if you don't like it, or you're also not sure about it.

http://www63.zippyshare.com/v/85832259/file.html this is only a rough design, but you could work on something similar to this idea.. :)

That is a interesting concept djmickyk. I might try to expand on that, and try some mods on mine to see if I like any of it.

I like the design but I don't get the name.
Is your dj name Paris creative? Because that's where the issue lies. Dj names can be weird and wacky but the name ____ creative is ALWAYS associated with multimedia / promo / design companies
I like the logo and ideas but not the name

From a promoting your dj career point of view, that is...
Like if I saw your name on a poster for an event as supporting dj sneak - I might assume Paris creative is some kind of light show team or something

So funny, between this site, and one of the other popular DJ sites I am getting totally mixed responses
Logo is too corporate
Logo is slick and clean
Name is too business like, think design or producer
Name is unique
Consensus, we do not have. :D
One random concept I had was to change up to DJ LT or just LT. My non-DJ name that is all over the internet is LTParis. I quick logo idea I had was this:

So after some feedback from this site, one of the other bid DJ sites, and my tech site, I've decided to:
a) Stick with the name. While it was branded more on the design side, I think that it could be re-branded effectively.
b) Rework the site to push all the aspects of what I plan to provide.
c) Change the logo
So with some of that feedback I've come up with this simple logo:

Thinking on the logo some more, a couple other concepts...

I like this one!
The 45 adapter ones could look cool, but I don't like them as they are. I think the adapter part is much too big and I don't like the way the colours look.

Interesting. I got blasted by a designer for that logo. LOL:
The colors are the only thing about that that I'd salvage, everything else goes in the shitter. You have WAY too much negative space in each color, your font choice, due to S T R E T C H I N G the PARIS, is now a mis-match. The 45 spacer inside the C adds a level of detail to the logo that's completely absent anywhere else in the logo and therefore out of place. The balance along the "color line" is off ("CREATIVE" is closer than "PARIS").
Enjoy your Death Star-esque logo.
At this point I don't even know which one I like better.
