My next mod/refurbishing project is going to be my Odyssey flight cases that are about 10 years old. The frame and body of the cases are in great condition not counting the stickers, but the latches are busted and the foam is worn out and falling off. I also want to do the mods that Soulsonica did to his cases plus maybe something a little extra.

Right now I have two questions. How should I go about removong the old latches? They seem to be attached using rivets. I don't want to damage the case in the process. Second question is, what should I do about the worn out ball corners? I know I could buy new ones and replace them, but they go for about $16.00 a piece and I would need 16 for both cases. I was thinking about taking some sandpaper to them and seeing if I could remove any of the scrapes and the little bit of rust. I'm even considering painting them like the Black Label cases. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Ok, I found the corners for 5.00 but I still might end up painting the originals. It seems the corners are made up of galvanized metal with a zinc coating. Gotta find some paint to test out.

To remove rivets, you have to drill them out or grind off one of the heads. If you want to avoid damaging the cases, drilling them out is probably the way to go.

Also corners and parts are pretty dirt cheap. Take a look here for replacements.

On some cases, the rivets are not true rivets, but instead they just have the rivet look, with a pair of prongs inside the case that are bent out to lock it into place. You'll be pulling out any lining or foam to get at these bits of hardware.

My first set of turntable cases that are 21 years old has flat corners. I am replacing the flat corners with stackable ball corners. I will post in the Equipment Mods section once all the parts arrive.
