I finally bought a new case for my 1200 TT. But after putting it into the case and trying to close the lid, it doesn't seem to fit! When you press down on the lid to close it, I have at least a 2" gap from being able to close it. Luckily, it has the soft foam instead of the hard foam to hold the platter down, but when I try to close it, it seriously presses down on the platter.

Is this a problem? Is there such a thing as the foam pushing that platter down too much? Well it get better over time? I can get it to close, but only if I push down on it really hard and then latch it before it springs open. I don't wanna damage my turntable(s)! Advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

What type of case did you buy? Can you post pics?

Don't force it to close when it's not made for 1200s. You may damage the tonearm as well as the spindle.

You're going to want to be sure that the platter does not move when you are moving the case, so yeah, it needs to be quite snug in there. As long as the foam is soft, it should be fine.

Good thought, but I am willing to bet he has plenty of space above and around the tone arm and spindle.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm pretty sure its made for 1200's. Here is the case I got:

I'm replacing flight cases I bought second-hand at least 12 years ago. The soft foam that it sits on doesn't rebound back to a flat shape and there was no top foam to hold the platter down

The spindle and tonearm has clearance enough to close but just in case, I lowered the tonearm height a little. I even made sure the TT feet were screwed in all the way. I am banking that the foam does soften a bit over time.

I'll try and take a picture when I can. But I'm gonna be embarassed, especially to you Nicadraus! I bought my tables a long time ago from someone who didn't quite finish an intended paint job. I've had on a cover since then but I really want to paint them one day. Salamat!

No need to be ashamed bro. A 1200 will always be a treasure regardless of how it looks as long as it works. By the way I have similar cases (the blue ones) under the decks.
I use them when I travel with my decks. They've probably gone more than 2000miles on trips by land, sea and air. They're still fine except for the scratches. :)
