I picked up the m audio bx5 d2 about 2 months ago and so far I'm really loving them. http://www.proaudiostar.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=m+audio+bx5+d2 has them for $210 which I had Guitar center price match. I was on an extreme budget and for about $200 bucks I don't think anything else out there even comes close. These little puppys are Solid as rocks, pretty darn clear and get louder than you will ever need for production, They also translate to other systems really well. I have one complaint about them because I'm lazy and thats that they have independant power switches on the rear of each speaker and independant volume controls which is really not that big of a deal. Also they are quite directional even for directional speakers. These minor flaws are easily overlooked when you consider better sound quality will cost you over the $500 mark.

I highly recommend the Behringer B2031a's for anyone looking for a great set of monitors <$500.

I've been really happy with my KRK Rokit RP8s.

KRK's are overpriced and boomy sounding IMO.

Question relating to this stuff: As long as you match ohms/wattage for your monitors, does it matter what kind of amp you get? I mean, a quality amp will probably be better, but if I got those behringers, should I just look up the specs and find any amp that fits them?

edit: Any 'bang for your buck' amps to match the above monitors?

Skeyelab- you ever compare the 2031s to the 3031s? I have not compared them and would want to know if there are any major differences. Let me know- thanks- JP

no, I have not. but I have heard good things about the 3031s. Believe it or not, Behringer makes a quality speaker.

Same here. Never regretted buying the white special edition pair. They look awesome and sound great.

I seen really good review on Behringer, I ended up getting some http://www.guitarcenter.com/Numark-NPM5-Active-5--Studio-Monitors-106219009-i1482791.gc have too admit even based on the reviews itself I personally Love these vs. M-Audio AV series I have had 2 sets already!! both not nearly impress how the sound comes from the Numark NPM5 Active 5" Studio Monitors.
