Forgive my noobiness, but I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'd like suggestions for labels and/or artists in the following genres:

House
Deep House
Funky/Soulful House

I'm trying to listen to as many streaming radio stations (Digitally Imported, My House Your House, Deepvibes Radio) but I'd like to start spinning this stuff and I'd like some groundwork as I start venturing into this world called house music :eek3dance:

Many thanks!!

Um...not sure if you're being serious, but I don't think Tiesto falls into any of those categories...

Well house is the main genre, deep house and funky house are two of its sub genres. Search well and you'll find more than enough of both. For funky house, try Gramaphonedzie.

Defected is a huge label for house. Check out their podcasts and numerous compilation CDs.

I like Beatdown Records featuring artists such as Sonny Fodera, Cause & Affect, James Shoji etc

Lol

The mix submission session prob has some good stuff to dig through. Also, one of our own DJF'rs makes some good house that might be the type your lookin for, 'Kid Vibe'

Thanks everyone! That's a great start - can't wait to start digging. I know what I like, now I just gotta find it. Keep 'em coming, I'm excited to venture into this new territory :)

Edit: Damn, both Kid Vibe and Nick Bike are just a ferry ride away from me! Diggin' their stuff, lookin' forward to spinning some of their tracks.

Check out Umek for deep house.

Thanks. I checked out Umek's 1605 podcast and it describes it as techno and tech-house. Would he also fall into the deep house genre?

Maybe progressive house, but not house.

Umek is a techno DJ from Slovenia

House is a broad church, there's loads of stuff going on. A good way to begin to find out what you like is to track down the tunes you like on your favourite DJ mixes, then you can begin to find out about the record labels these tracks are released on and if they have other good stuff, you can find loads of decent music this way.

This thread has loads of house & deep house: http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?456-Some-Deep-House-Techno-!!!

Maybe check out Masters at Work for some funky house & go from there.

For medium term project read up on the electronic music history of Detroit, Chicago and New York, you'll learn the seminal labels, producers & DJs and that'll help you find to search for the music you like and understand how it fits in with all the other stuff going on. There's loads of decent house documentaries on Youtube too.
