Hello!

I'd appreciate your help with fill lights for my lighting setup. I searched this section of the forum but didn't find the exact information I was looking for after reading twenty pages of "Need Help with Lights", "Lighting N00b", and "Lighting Recommendations?" topics.

Anyway, can you give me some advice as to how to position my fill lights? For a small dance with about 50-75 people, we're in a room that is 30'x54'. I have four par cans (but can get more if needed) and I'm using gels on them all to fit the color scheme of the dance. I also plan to have some fun effect lighting, but that's not what I'm here to ask for advice with. :D

Anyway, I plan to have two lighting trees/stands up at the front of the room with two pars on each (but, again, I can get more stands if needed). Where do you suggest I position the pars? Should they shine their light on the walls, dance floor, back of the room, corners, or somewhere else? Also, is it okay if these pars flash with the music, or should they be on constantly?

I hope this isn't too much to ask for advice on! I know you all get a lot of "n00b" topics here every week, so any advice you can give me would be awesome. :)

Thank you so much!
Cira

I personally shine them on the dance floor and yes, I put them on a chase (flash). Remember that your effects lights are better noticed without the pars and then again, the pars flashing by themselves is quite cool too. The best thing to do is just stand back and check out your lighting and see what looks best. But I would definately use the pars on the dance floor. Especially during slow songs, a nice blue on the floor is cool with like a white moonflower type effect.

They look nice shining on walls.

Sometimes, having some pars stay on, and others flash is cool. Another DJ here uses 6 pars on triangle truss, all of which are deep purple and blue colors, and those he shines constently on the dance floor durring ceremonies, or group dances, then he also switches to chase them. It looks pretty cool.

Thank you for your replies! Also, thanks for the tip about the effect lighting, groovydjs! I think I might have gone a little overboard on it without your warning! :S
