What is a line insert on a analog mixer. Hence I'm upgrading my old studio mixer to a live sound/analog mixer.

Line insert is usually an analog input. Line input may be used for sources such as CD player, iPod, and almost anything with a non-phono output signal.

A line insert allows you to add signal processing to a channel (or channels). On DJ mixers it's usually called a send/return, and allows you to hook up an external effector.
