Lol not sure what OIDH means, but I'll get some pics from my old hdd in the morning.

Marc S. How do you feel The Rodec sound compares to that of the Ranes??

hard to say really since it was bought purely for use in clubs, it was never set up at home, I was a co promoter of a big night and we wanted something solid and with a great sound, formula sound was the 1st choice but a little out of budget and at the time rane didn't really offer anything with enough channels (non rotary)
I'd used my empath in that venue and the sound was always noticeably better than the old installed djm600, like, a LOT better, and the rodec too blew it away, so at least in a large club environment it certainly lived up to expectations, but I don't recall in he 2 years we had it, ever running it on some nice quality home/studio monitors,
It has a shit tone of headroom though I can tell you that, the resident venue had great pa, and we did some long testing since the night was old Skool rave and dnb, and a lot if the djs were a bit red light happy, with the limiters on the booth and main room speakers, I'd often see it so in the red that the top ones didn't even flicker, they were just ON, and it suffered not a hint of distortion,

Well here's my first. I learned on this thing and it was a beast. Wish I still had it.

I've played on a few more but my next long term mixer is this. I currently have this. Its a nice mixer but since i've begun to get heavy into turntabalisim I feel its been holding me back a little. Actually I have the 3 channel version. So just pretend that far right channel isnt there lol.

And this mixer is 90% going to be my next mixer. If its not this it'll be a 56.

2nd mixer. Built like a tank. From when Numark made half decent stuff. Given to an apprentice.
http://www.djresource.eu/images/gear/small_numark-dm-1260x.jpg

3rd mixer. Major error, a very poor mixer.
http://www.crazyevents.ch/verkauf/eso/qt_tmix.jpg

4th mixer. Back to Numark, but their quality control was rubbish. This mixer never worked 100%. But it works, I still have it.
https://encrypted-tbn2.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRGtJ7AdP3Hd85HFhSgsGPAT-Lz39lHHz2kSka98b_j2-7AOHvX

5th mixer. Another tank, that never stops. Basic, but nice to use. Good sound, nice xfader. My present backup.
http://www.aevas-sono.com/evas/images/HAK310.jpg

6th mixer. Really nice sound and controls. Nice faders and nice price. Sadly killed early 100% dead by a power surge.
http://www.ureidj.com/img/products/1601t.jpg

7th mixer. My present mixer. Bought for a bargain price but one of the midi contols is ripped from the circuit board. Still, I like this mixer, even though these days it doesn't get much use at all.

Yeah, just a tad. I'm a huge fan of the way their EQs sound, and they generally use pretty good quality faders in their gear.

The PMC-CX is a fun mixer, very well-suited to progressive stuff, or really anything that needs long, slow blends. It's big though, 19" wide and 7RU (12.25") high. It's almost the same size as a 1200.

I had a neighbor who had one of those about eleven years ago. The concept seems interesting, but in practice, it's kind of weird, and it's hard to wrap your brain around it. Most of the time, he just used it in single-crossfader mode.

I got the 1775A from an upcoming DJ that just did not want it. The 1975 was bought from a DJF member. A couple months later, while deployed, I found one on eBay and NO ONE bidded on it and I ended getting it for a steal.

You had to buy the rotary kit after the fact. It came with a new face plate and the rotary input faders! :music::tup:

Finally able to post up a pic of my Numark DM 1775 PPD (pre A model) and Numark PPD DD 8000 sampler. They're not hooked up anymore, but the mixer was a dream to mix on and the sound was also very nice. Shame it only has 2 phono in's tho.

What happened to the days when mixers had the built in equalizers???? Dont like the idea that most of todays mixers dont have them. Just a bass, mid and treble

Most sound engineers will tell you that the equaliser is best put where the DJ can't fiddle with it :p

When I bought my first pair of crappy Gemini turntables back in 2003, the first mixer I used was this super old Radio Shack mixer my dad had. It was 2 channels, had no EQs, no crossfader, and had 2 analog VU meters with a needle inside of them that moved back and forth to show the volume on each channel.

I eventually saved up and bought a Behringer DJX-700, and im currently using an American Audio MX-1400 DSP.

My first DJ mixer, an Ecler Nuo 3, purchased about 3 yrs ago. I believe I am the third owner, bought used from a DJF 1.0 member, Josh Geffen IIRC
These pics aren't mine, just representative. My Nuo has the graphics paint worn partially off where the xfader and input 3 channel faders are and still works like a champ. I might be putting it up for sale soon because I never use it. I used it when I had a pair of CDJ400's but those are gone now and I've settled on a rackmount system for now. (see below)

http://www.djdeals.co.uk/prod-downloads/Ecler-NUO3-top.jpg

This is my current DJ mixer, the Denon DN-X500. I like it just fine and the rackmount design works better with what I'm trying to do. The extra mic input is nice too for weddings which is where I'm headed. I've done one but haven't had time to really dive in full time yet.

https://www.thomann.de/pics/bdb/187328/7304118_800.jpg

My first mixer ever was a Behringer UB802 small desk style mixer. I also have an Allen & Heath MixWizard 16:2 WZ3 and a Mackie VLZ Pro 1402 (I think that's right)

I'll probably get another X500 for my ceremony setup and eventually just for fun at home, I'll look into one of the better mixers like a TTM56. I'm also very intrigued by the Rodec progressive line. If I thought it had enough channels to do live sound duty to, and replace my MixWiz, I would get an MX3000, but I think 16 channels is the least I want for that purpose, plus the MixWiz gives me 4 auxes which is great for giving the musicians individual monitors customized to their needs. I love how the Rodecs have an abundance of Master Outs with each one having the option of stereo or mono. I like to run mono most of the time because unless you have an audience sitting still, all positioned in the stereo sweet spot, I think stereo is more of a hindance than benefit. When I'm doing my charity live sound events, others want a main feed for their video setups and I like to run an output to a Behringer MX882 mixer/splitter I use as a sort of pseudo pressbox. (ah yes, forgot I have two MX882's also)

My mixer history is a little bland. One of the djs that I talked to when I was getting started told me to keep it simple - because you never know what you are going to walk into at a club, so you need to be ready for anything. He actually ran a mixer that just had sliders. He disabled the crossfader, and even the phono/line switch. Just faders.

And when I bought my first mixer - 1992 - there weren't a whole lot of bells and whistles on mixers.

My first was a gemini - 4 channel 19" rack mount. Stereo 5 band eq over the whole mix

Second - MTX Soundcraftsman - 3 channels, 19" rack mount - 5 band eq over whole mix.

Then I decided to get a grown up mixer in about 2003 and I got a Rane MP2016 - and 3 separate EQ Killers

Then I realized that the MP2016 is a major pain if you want to take it to a friend's party and play records - so I got the Ecler Nuo3

Then I realized I really didn't like the faders on the Ecler, and I bought a xone:22.

Now I just need to sell the Ecler.

Sorry no pics, I just used them - and none of them are good enough mixers that any one else would have photographed them either :)

@VjQue: Fantastic oldschool mixers! My first mixer was a Weston MX900. I also had a Numark DM-1150A back in 1991. I loved it and used it for about 5 years. Our mobile mixers were the 1760, 1775A, 1975, 2175. Numark was THE MIXER to have back in the late 80s to the mid 90s until the company was sold Soundcraftsmen.

I'd love to play with a PMC-37 one day, they look awesome. The PMC-CX that replaced it, too.

I racked up loads of hours on my mate's DM 3002. Good times :). I dread to think how many crossfaders we burned through though

I'm pretty sure that the PMC-37 was just too much mixer for many folks to comprehend when it hit the scene. I have a friend who refused to play on mine for a year or so because he was too intimidated by all the controls.

It's a crazy powerful mixer, there's just so much that you can do with it. The isolator EQs sound super-clean, even at +6, so I like to max out all the EQs, drop the gain slightly to compensate, and use the EQs only to cut, with the first half of the travel giving a -6 cut, and the second half of the travel cutting quickly to full kill. The two aux loops allowed for each of two channels to be set to output to it's own aux out, so with a six-input recording interface, you can record mixes multi-track style, with separate tracks for master and each deck. The matrix inputs allow for some real fun by setting up the same input on different channels with different EQ/FX settings and then cutting quickly between them.

The only bad thing about the mixer is that the whole thing runs on single-rail 12VDC power. If it had been designed to use a +/-15VDC dual-rail supply...WOW.

I'm not that into the technical side of mixers, could you explain this? would the 15vdc be more stable and provide better sound or something?

Interesting, is there any downside to this method?
I only use the eq's to cut so this would suit me.

I'm not that into the technical side of mixers, could you explain this? would the 15vdc be more stable and provide better sound or something?

Operational amplifiers (op-amps, which are the main workhorse in analog mixers) can typically be powered one of two ways. The first is to use a basic single-rail power supply, which supplies positive voltage and a ground line. The second is to use a dual-rail supply that supplies positive voltage, a matching negative voltage, and a ground line. The use of a dual-rail supply results in a much greater total voltage differential (the difference between +12V and -12V is 24V, whereas the difference between 12V and 0V[ground] is only 12V), which allows the op-amps to produce a higher signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio.

A dual-rail +/- 15VDC supply represents the practical maximum power for the type of op-amps used in analog DJ mixers. The advantage compared to a 12V single-rail supply would be more gain and higher S/N ratio.

Interesting, is there any downside to this method?
I only use the eq's to cut so this would suit me.

On the PMC-37, no, although I can't speak for any other mixer. I used my PMC-37 with that EQ technique on a large, high-quality custom-built sound system (think V-DOSC or Meyer class, though the system builder swears it's better than both), and it sounded awesome.

You can buy almost any kind of power supply you can think of. The issues arise with implementation.

Some DJ mixers plug directly into 120VAC wall power, and do all the conversions down internally. Some use an external "wall-wart" or "line-lump" transformer for the first stage, then further refine/regulate the power signal internally. Regardless of how they go about doing it, the internals are designed the way they're designed, and there's no changing that without re-engineering the circuitry and redesigning the PCBs. If the mixer is designed for single-rail power, that's what it will always be stuck with.

An old 3-ch Peavy. Having no EQ on each channel made mixing dance music literally a blast. Mostly just played random tunes at my friends parties with it.

The only bad thing about the mixer is that the whole thing runs on single-rail 12VDC power. If it had been designed to use a +/-15VDC dual-rail supply...WOW.

So true. It gets hot. Too hot. I've had to replace the AC adapter because it melted the insulation and shorted out.

Relegated to old mixer, had the DJM850 for a good few months now.

I am not really a fan of the dnx1500, but that being said, I've only ever owned 3 mixers, Behringer DX626, Denon DNX1500 and now a Pioneer DJM850.

So considering the amount of time I've had the Denon its done well. It needs a small amount of soldering work and replacing some of the buttons but still works ok.

I recently bought a Numark 1975, but I don't know how to set the sampler, can some one here explain the procedure, thanks in advance.

The sampler works for single stuttering or looping. The 1975 also has an 8 second memory bank which can be divided in one, two, three, and four banks.

First set the effects knob to write (record). Select the bank you wish to put the sample in. Then press the write button to begin recording the sample you want then press it again to end the recording. You can record up to 8 seconds for a single sample or 4 seconds for two samples or 2 seconds for four samples. After recording, select the button to single or repeat (loop). Then switch the knob to memory bank. Start pressing the stutter button. You can also adjust the pitch knob while stuttering which will make a nice effect. Enjoy!

The 1775A, 1975 and 2175 were the ultimate mixers in the 90s. The were the leading mixers back then before Pioneer took over. Numark was sold to Soundcraftsman (MTX), then to a Taiwan based company. NUmark lost its quality after PPD (Professional Products Division - USA).

Getting better at buying mixers, you have to make some bad decisions in order to learn to make the right ones.

Hands up who didn't learn how to mix with faders with the knobs missing. That feeling of playing with a thin metal stick... and when you do a quick fade you nick your finger with it.

I seem to remember when I bought my 1210's, which was about 1995, the guy chucked in this big black mixer with half the knobs missing, and no markings whatsoever on it, I assume they'd all rubbed off. So I can't post a picture of it because I never knew what it was. I had a laugh with it though until I got one of those silver Vestax two channel things which everyone had. Which was shiny.

Had the rack mount version of this CV, it got extremely warm for a mixer. Took it to clubs and hooked it up to their RCA's because it was a lot better than their Bozaks in my opinion. Played a lot of Delicious Vinyl promo 12ers", Motown white label promos and other records. There were no downloads, beat sync. If you were a dj you had the white label promos man and you brought two copies to mix the instru side back to another song

My Numark MMX-1000 phono preamp is perfectly bass heavy. But it needs a little work to get it back to club-ready.

My mixers: Past to present

First was this - Weston MX900. Used it from 1990 to 1992

Second was this - Numark DM1150A - Used it from 1991 - 1995. It sounded really good.

(pic borrowed from the net)

Third was this - Numark DM 905 - Used it when I went back to DJing after a 2 year cool down used it from 2000 to 2002. I still have this mixer until now and it still works fine.

(pic borrowed from the net)

Fourth was this - Pioneer DJM500 - Used it from 2004 to 2012. Although we also used a DJM500 in our mobile back in 1995 - 1998 but it wasn't mine.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a305/Nicadraus/DSC00642.jpg (http://s14.photobucket.com/user/Nicadraus/media/DSC00642.jpg.html)

Fifth was this crappy one - Behringer DJX700 - Bought it and used it for 6 months, sold it and went back to using the DJM500. The reason I bought was it fancied me of the looks and cheap price. I thought it would be good because the old Behringer mixers I used in some residecies were good. Mainly the DX500 with accurate sampler adn DX1000.

Sixth is this - Pioneer DJM250 - Bought it in 2012 and still works like new to this day.
http://works1200.weebly.com/uploads/8/1/5/7/8157023/5297030_orig.jpg

Seventh is this - Ecler Nuo 4 - Love it! I've used the Ecler mixers from 2006 to 2008 when I was the brand manager of this product. But the Ecler mixers I used at home were the company's and were demo units as well.

This was my second one: US Blaster

https://i.ibb.co/5K5Y0y2/IMG001.jpg (https://ibb.co/Dr7GJyL)

It was the most terrible one I ever mixed on. Before that I've got an IMG Stageline two channel mixer, then JB Systems Beat 6, Rodec BX-14, Ecler Mac 70V and a Denon X-1600.
I still have the Ecler and bought again a Rodec.
The ultimate dream was an Ecler AC-6, but was too expensive.
