I'm 17 right now and for the last year ive been attending raves and bass events on a weekly basis. I figure if I enjoy being their so much I may as well learn to dj and get paid for it. I dled virtualdj about two weeks ago and am quite familiar with it now I watched a bunch of youtube tutorials and all that stuff. So yea im looking to buy some equipment but am not sure what exactly to get, I was thinking of the Traktor Kontrol S2 but really am not sure. What would be some good equipment to start with thats not to expensive. Also I don't really want vinyl even though I would prefer it over CDJ, vynal is just to expensive these days.

There's always the DVS route... Vinyl without the vinyl ;)

Allright, so what is your budget? "Not too expensive" is a quite broad concept when it comes to DJing and life overall. I'd say look into Midi controllers, such as the S2 you mentioned. It is a very good controller, I've tried its big brother S4 which is great. The S2 is perfect for you as a beginner, it's got everything you need. CD's and DVS will always cost you more than a Midi controller, so I would advice you to look into the controllers.

Hope this helps a little, be sure to ask if you have any more questions :) There are many people here on DJF with tons of experience on controllers, mine is mostly on DVS

There are plenty of high quality DJ controllers out there, everything from $300 to $1500+. Tell us your budget/needs and we'll start from there :)

Less than $500 would be my budget. Would you guys recommend buying second hand if I can find what im looking for?

Depends on what you're looking for. For $500 you can get some nice DJ controllers, although it won't have the extras.

Your best bet would be the Traktor S2 or the Pioneer ERGO. There's other DJ controllers that are under $300 as well.

You should definitely invest in a Traktor S2, it has everything you need to start DJing.

Do you have a computer, or is the budget supposed to get you a computer too?

You'll also need headphones and speakers. And music.
