So is there any difference in features of the CDJ 900 and the 850 when using solely for serato purposes? Yes I know some differences, but besides screen and the slip mode is there anything?

I currently run 1200s M3d, rane 56s SL1 and dicers....thinking about going rane sixty two and two CDJs 850s. I think it will save me a lot on weight to carry around, since I do mobile gigs mostly it would surely be helpful. But I AM SO hesitant to let go of my technics. Those things are awesome but having features such as a play button would be very nice for some stressful wedding intros etc, plus i love the platter on the CDJs.

I would go with denon decks for sure vs pioneer but no serato native mode. What a bummer.

Both I believe, can run in HID mode where buttons can be assigned such as the loop and hot cues. This will take up some USB slots tho.

I have used both and own the 900's. The ONLY difference when using Serato is the screen (one tilted one not obviously) and the 850's are SERIOUSLY laggy as far the screen. The performance is the same but like the ring in the middle of the jogwheel is laggy and most of the time the only thing on the screen of the 850 is the first song you played. If that doesn't matter get the 850 if it does get the 900's. I only got the 900's because I got a sick deal on them but the 850's are just as good WHEN USING SERATO.

well that sounds like quite a large issue. Lagging cue marker would be a terrible thing! I am sure that has been looked at in the firmware updates already, at least I hope! Yes i love the look of the 900s more then 850s but after a month I would totally get over that so thats not an issue.

What is considered a sick deal on the 900s? I see the 850s for $750 a piece.

I got the 900's for about that...but it was 2 seperate ebay auctions...I got lucky. I don't want to be misunderstood at all if you taped up all the screens on the 850 it would be exactly the same as the 900's usage wise with Serato...Just saying.

As I said, I used both and wanted the 850's but got lucky. I say pull the trigger you won't regret it. And for the record I never get sick of how beautiful my setup is ;) hehe

Well you're the second person telling me they got 900s for that price. the 900s are 909 refurb from pioneer so thats not a bad deal already but ill keep looking for a better deal!

thanks

if you're going to just use it for Serato or any DVS, 850 will work fine. Just make sure you run the CDJs in HID mode and not timecode CDs.

I would go with 850 unless you can get 90 for cheap
