hi everyone! i spent all day trying to make a unique business card for myself. Any advice or suggestions? :)

Front of card: Looks good. I like that you added your name but it blend in... I wish it stood out.. You know it should jump at you. It gets lost in all the lights and buttons...

Back of card: I wonder why you did not choose to work in Landscape instead of limit yourself to the small size of portrait. No twitter account?

It is streched but it wont matter because people will understand what it is.. People without a design eye wont care... Just get your phone ringing and your likes up! :)
Overall your names on it and if you think people would like it than go for it... Did you leave yourself enough room so that when printed and cut you wont have any of your design missing?

Thx dude for ur feedback! Yea idk how i can make my name stand out more on the front. I chose landscape because i like for it to be held in ur hand like a real mini cdj or something. I hate twitter! Lol and yea i left space in the actual jpeg for the chance of it getting cutt off. Anyways, thx

I'd make use of that screen. Put some info on there or even a pic of you on the decks.
The idea is cool but I feel like the CDJ taking up a lot of space. I know you want to use that pic but it might be using too much space on your card.
even consider wrapping your name or some keywords like live sound, dj, weddings, birthdays, etc around the jog wheel.

Hate twitter? I take back everything i said lol... Looks good and I did assume that was the idea... But now that I think more of it it sounds like it owuld be easy to hold and just flip it over.

Maybe add some drop shadow... You might benefit from this (http://www.psawesome.com/tutorials/metal-text-under-12-oclock-spot-light)...

when that is printed small as a car the front will be damn near impossible to read, also you have had to squash the CDJ and it just looks odd imo, you'd be better off having the cdj in its normal aspect ratio and with the blank space above or below it, putting your name/info, other than that you could just use the screen and put the info on the screen like its supposed to be there, easiest way of doing that (i assume you own these since its on the card) is just make a cd with all that info as the id3Tag and thn just take a really nice picture. ive seen this done to great effect before.

on the back, lose the texture/effect on the text, it looks cheesy and "oh hey i just got photoshops" and makes harder to read, i agree with fredrock about putting the text landscape also,

I like that idea! Ima give it shot.

Ima also try it with landscape text and see if it looks cleaner. We shall see..

if you use an effect like this outer glow it will make the font more visible..using the same color as the cdj lights..also i would put a space between all the links:)

Thx everyone for ur advice!

Front of card:
i made my name bigger and made a shine effect which makes it stand out alot more! i also added types of events i can do for someone.

i really don't like it. i would scrap the CDJ thing altogether and consider something more clean and simple.

I'm personally not a fan, either. It looks... cheesy. Especially since the picture is obviously stretched and low-res.

Business cards should be clean, and easy to read. The person should be able to glance at it, tell who you are, what you do, and how to contact you with minimal effort. If it's too difficult to read, they'll just file it away and never use it.

I'm not sure I'd go with a CDJ background... it's distracting and the fact the CDJ isn't proportional makes it look unprofessional (that is a HUGE pet peeve of mine). Plus a lot of the quality and details will be lost unless you get it printed on high quality card stock. Also, when you have something that you're trying to center but reaches the borders, you're going to be disappointed in the final product because there's a good chance they aren't all going to be cut perfectly.

If you want to fill the card, you should use something that goes into the bleed so the fact they aren't all cut perfectly isn't noticeable (Maybe a 3/4 view of the CDJ and have just key identifying parts of it in the frame).

I like the back better than the front. It's eaiser to read and still has a cool graphic.

the text will also get lost in this design unless you use something to define the edges..for a business card you are better design your own personal logo that people will remember..then you can put it on any flyers for gigs you do etc..:)

http://www4.zippyshare.com/v/61374766/file.html a business card should look something like this,a nice clean cut professional design,if you are finding it difficult most desktop publishing programs have templates , that you can alter to your design easily..ie photoshop or serif page plus...:)

better than the originals from a design standpoint, but i would say though, that someone booking a wedding is not likely to choose a business card with smoking gun barrels and an alien head on it, its very much a "club" dj card, people want a dj for their special day.

Although a bit too small to read, I like this one the best. Didn't even want to comment on the first few. :freak:

Agree, just make it larger. Business cards are only 3.5 x 2 inches, and zooming out to that level on my PC, I can just barely read any text.

Kingbob182
07-15-2012, 06:57 PM
Yeah, this is 100% your best option.
Maybe make the info on the back a bit larger. The slightest bit of moisture and it will become un-readable. also depending on who prints it, the text may be too small from the beginning.
I like the front but the back isn't supposed to be a work of ark. Keep it uniform with the front of the card (Which you've done) but make sure that the info (Which is the most important part of your card ) is big enough for customers to read easily. It's pretty small at the moment and im looking at it on a lit up screen and slightly larger than actual size.
I think the design is pretty good. But try enlarging the font by 2pt or so

Just always keep in mind who will be looking at it and what kind of message it sends them.

Yeah, I'd say so. Now save all the layers and everything you can in an organised folder and in the best resolution you can.
Use everything as uniform as possible for facebook pages, twitter, stickers, flyers, CDs, headers & Footers, etc.

Make a note of the name/size of the font you used so you can use it again later.

Have to say I'm somewhere in the middle for this one. I was going to say the same thing as TheHadgi as it is a picture of an alien head after all. But it's greyscale. It's small. Doesn't look overly 'immature' and gives a bit of a hi-tech look.

It might be perfect for you though. I tell people that if they're looking for a DJ to play classical music at their traditional wedding, I'm not the right DJ for them. But I can play appropriate music and keep a party going at a modern wedding all night. This sort of card would probably be fine for me. I depends on the kind of clients you want to attract and the message you want to send them before even meeting them.
