Just bought a SL-1200GLD in like new condition. It should be here sometime next week. I told him how to package it, so I hope it makes it here in one piece. I'll put up some pictures when I get it.

Well I only got one, not two. They only had one and I only wanted one. I got it as my audiophile turntable to listen to my classic vinyl, and to replace my M5G which I keep in excellent condition. I don't want it as a DJ table. I already have 7 other turntables and I mainly use my NS7. I got it from a Guitar Center in California. They already took the ad down. They said it was in mint condition, so I'm guessing it was a store demo. They are supposed to ship it today. I may flip it and try to double or triple my money, but I will probably just keep it. As far as the bling factor, you either like them or you hate them. I like the gold ones as an audiophile turntable. As a DJ turntable, they are a colossal waste of money. They are easily scratched, and the gold platting wears off quickly if you handle it a lot. I'll post some pictures when it arrives.

Well I can't believe it, but that gold turntable that I bought yesterday from California was sitting in a big box on my front door when I came home for lunch today. I just called them about an hour ago complaining because they haven't sent me my tracking number yet. The guy told me that he would email it to me as soon as it hit the truck, and a few minutes later, I got home and there it was. I can't believe they sent it Fedex over night, and I didn't even pay for shipping. I was expecting it here some time next week. My hats off to Guitar Center for doing an excellent job! I quickly unboxed it and just like I thought, it is absolutely in primo, brand new, mint condition. Not a scratch on it anywhere. I can't believe how lucky I got in finding a brand new one. This must have been the display model that they had at the store. The only thing is that they didn't send me the gold headshell or the gold 45 rpm adapter. When I bought it yesterday, I made them look, and they told me they had them, so either they forgot to send them to me, or someone has some sticky fingers. I called them and they are going to find out what happened to those items and get back with me. Luckily those are one of the few items that are still available new.

The turntable is absolutely drop dead gorgeous. Pictures don't to it justice. It makes my M5G look ordinary in comparison. The only difference besides the gold is that the M5G has a black metal flake finish and the GLD has a shiny piano black finish. The other difference is that the plastic cover is light brown on the GLD and the M5G is clear. The GLD cover is also hinged like the MK2's, where as the M5G has no hinges. I am going to have to take care of the plastic cover since as far as I know, the light brown covers are not available anymore.http://www.pbase.com/image/144720252.jpg

NICE! I almost got a pair back in 2006 or 2007 but went with the M5Gs. Yeah, the golds were a bit more expensive if I remember correctly.

imo you shouldn't buy golds to play on (just like the OP is doing I believe), they've reached a collector status. So if you're only buying 1 pair you should get something to use, then when you hit a gold mine and can afford the golds you should buy one or two :P

i bought a pair when the 5g 1st came out, sold them pretty fast though (for a profit i might add :D, £100 over retail) i got bored of the gold and thought they looked tacky after a while. but then i had 2 set up and it was incredibly gaudy,

just 1 as a hifi deck might look nice.

here is a question. knowing how easy it is to get the technic's gold plated why even buy one now a days. im in the process of making some gold plated ones just because.

I think when we weren't taking them apart and getting them custom it was cool.

but now since we are customizing them why would you spend the extra money on them.

It cost me like $100 or less to gold plate all the parts on them.

im trying to get some 5g's for cheap just to custom them and add the gold plate to then like I did my sl1 box.

Gold platting a M5G is like buying a Shelby Cobra kit car. It may look the same and perform better than the original, but it's not worth as much to a collector. I am sure you won't have any problem selling them however.

Well he is the latest saga on my gold 1200. After numerous phone calls to Guitar Center, they could not find the gold head shell or the gold 45 rpm adapter. Since they told me that they where included when I bought them, they decided to give me back $225.00. Which I thought was more than fair, especially since today I order those 2 gold parts, plus the small extra auxiliary weight that screws on at the end of the tonearm. With shipping, that all cost me about $130. I'm very happy that Guitar Center stepped up an admitted their mistake and gave me the price break.

Just got my gold head shell in the mail yesterday. The deck is looking good now. Now I'm waiting on my gold 45 rpm adapter to get here. Its coming from England, so it might take a while.
