Hey guys, I figured I'd post my way of installing a SL1 box into my NUO 4.0 mixer. I followed the original thread on how to do this with a few changes made to the USB mount. I'm not finished yet but figured I'd show my progress in a thread :)
Enjoy the pics!
Board all apart, I realized after that it was unnecessary but I like taking things apart :P

How I'm mounging the SL1 to the mixer board. I'm using some rubber edge guard and just cut out where the jacks are. I will then hot glue a few spots of the rubber to the mixer board and then use some foam padding I had lying around as a spacer in between the SL1 box and the mixer bottom panel, I will post pics of that later...

Also, instead of cutting out a spot in the back of the mixer for a USB panel mount, I decided to replace the top mic input with a Neutrik USB panel mount. I would rather have deleted the rear mic input for ease of running the USB wire but for a few reasons, it wasn't logical. One being that I would have to desolder it from the board, two being that there were many electronic pieces in the way which would have prevented even mounting the new panel mount USB jack and three, I would rather have a rear mic input than a top mic input only...

The Neutrik connector isn't plastic so the old screws wouldn't work, I needed regular thread with a nut so home depot supplied me with these...

New USB mount in and first board back in place, close fit but there's room :)

2nd board installed and it doesn't leave me much room on top of the USB mount but there should be enough for the right angle cable...

And here is my SL1 box marked out for the wires going to the RCA's on the mixer board...

Good work so far, Chris. I also considered using the MIC opening instead of cutting into my mixer, but I like having the mic.
That panel mount USB adapter is pretty cool lookin' too - where'd you find those?

Thanks. The panel mount is made by Neutrik, I found it on eBay while searchin' for right angle USB cables :)

Wow, looks great, can't wait to see the finished product. I also looked at that particular USB mount for my NUO mod but turns out I needed the mic more than the actual mod.

Thanks you kind people :)
Here is an update! I am almost done. Wiring is complete, just waiting on final USB cable in the mail...
A little hot glue, which doesn't glue very well to the rubber, but the board like whoa!

Here, I was wiring all of the solder points with individual wires for each, including the grounds, but I soon realized that there would be WAY to many wires for me to make look clean so I decided to run the RCA grounds to one point on the mixer. All grounds are now joined together...

And the final wiring with foam pads in between the SL1 board and the mixer bottom

Dangit! I failed!
Well, the last picture I posted is pretty much the final wiring job minus the new USB cable I got in the mail yesterday. I plugged the final cable in and buttoned up the mixer. Problem is, when the mixer is switched on, I now have no LED power light and also get a 120bpm pulse coming out of my speakers... wth? I tried to be careful when touching the board, making sure I grounded myself before and during, I don't THINK I fried anything and I'm pretty sure my connections are in their proper place.
Could it be because the top mic input is now unplugged? This afternoon I will temporarily plug that back in and see what that yields... any thoughts in the mean time?

Hi Chris, while you definitely should try putting back anything you removed as a check, I seem to recall unplugging mine by accident and leaving it off, with no ill effects. I would say check your grounds, my mixer acted REAL funny due to a botched solder joint that looked fine, but was actually not conducting for some reason. I cracked it open and resoldered and all was good to button up.
A thought occurred while I was typing this - when I killed an equalizer putting my computer in the car, it kept trying to draw power and couldn't get enough, and it put out a pulse noise, like a dull thud/tap. While I hope your mixer is still OK, you may want to check your power. How's the PSU's fuse?

Ok folks, I'm a little embarassed... :blank:
I found that when I removed all of the plugs from the RCA board, two of the plugs were identical but never marked them because they were spread out pretty well and could tell where they went, or so I thought. I started putting the plugs back in and was like... :uhoh: These two are similar lengths and was hard to tell where each other went so I routed them the way I thought but was of course wrong. One was the MIC input I removed and the other I'm not sure, to say the least, I plugged the remaining one in the wrong spot by accident. Swapped that back to the other input and voila!
Then came another oops, I marked out my solder points on the board as you can see from the pics but when wiring them, I wired the phone/line inputs backwards... I was supposed to go from mixer phono in to SL1 line in and then mixer line in to SL1 output, I did the reverse. Once THAT was swapped around, I'm good to go! Yay!!
I want to thank the guy who made this (http://scotched.tumblr.com/post/943312242/how-to-install-serato-sl1-inside-your-mixer) thread for the idea.
Excited!

which such a project and such tight space, howcome you didnt just use an SL2? great work though

I'm not sure I understand your question. I already had the SL1 and don't have the funds for a new Serato box or mixer. Plus, space wasn't really that tight, just for the way I decided to run my USB cable, that's all :)

You're welcome Chris, it took a bit of advice from pioneers like Telly :D and other board members. I wasn't the first the have the idea - I was the first to document it step by step.
little known fact: on my first attempt I actually got confused and soldered the points wrong (since the RCA joint patterns can be deceiving) and had to re-do my RCA's
Nothing worth doing ever goes right the first time!
Hope you enjoy your custom mixer.
