Hey DJF,
so last night I got to play with a Pioneer DJM-900NX, and it was hella fun!!!
So I started to look through the market for a mixer again :(
I'm not entirely sure I would need anything more than a 2-channel mixer, at least not at the level I'm at now (noob).
But what I AM looking for in a mixer:
- built in sound card
- built in effects (I'd rather have a few SOLID ones, over 16 crappy ones or whatever)
- solid build.

My "I'm too broke for these mixers/they're probably too advanced for me" mixers are:
-Rane 57/62/68
-Pioneer DJM-900NX (now lol)

I really want a solid mixer to go with the 1200's that I bought and have just been sitting for past ...two or three years now :(
I also plan to go Serato, I already have 2 Serato time code vinyl, I've just been playing with my Vestax Typhoon for the time being.

Anyways, I started looking for fairly cheap ones, and so far I've seen the Denon-X600 which doesn't look too bad and I think I could keep it as a back up if I get any other baller mixer lol.

Music that I play:
-hip-hop
-breaks
-house
-progressive
-starting to get into dnb
-dubstep

So are there any recommendations, for or against the Denon-X600? or recommendations for anything better for my dollar, etc. ?

Thanks!

I've heard good things about the Denon. Most mixers won't have a built in sound card unless you plan on paying $1k+

I haven't used any of these mixers, but Skratchworx is where I go to if I want a reliable review on equipment. Check out Gizmo's reviews on these mixers.

The Denon DN-X600 is a excellent 2-channel mixer, comes with a sound card as well!

I thought really hard about getting a DN-X600, and decided if I was going to spend the cash, I might as well go with the DN-X1600. You get a lot more for just a couple hundred dollars and unless you are cramped for space, the extra channels might come in handy. But, in the end, I decided I'd just get a few midi devices and stick with my original mixer that I love.

Also, not sure why you'd be looking at the DN-X600 if you're not into Traktor. The audio interfaces work with TSP so you don't need an Audio 4/6/8.

well I've seen the DN-x600 being used with Serato (through VDJ), which I already have those time-coded vinyls.

I have nothing against Traktor, it's just that I already have the Serato vinyl lol. came with the Jdilla Donuts special edition.

Why do you want a built-in audio interface?

Why do you want effects?

Why are you looking at Traktor Scratch Certified mixers if you're planning on using SSL?

Another happy DN-X1600 user here, great, great mixer. Denon's gear is seriously underrated.

You might not be aware of this, but Serato simply won't work unless there is a Serato compatible piece of hardware somewhere in the signal chain such as an SL audio interface or one of those Rane mixers you mention. The DN-X1600 is one such item.

If you use an external audio interface, you don't need one in your mixer. If the one in your mixer isn't Serato compatible, like in the DN-X600, you have to get the external audio interface meaning you paid for something in your mixer that isn't going to do you any good. I'm not sure, but I would think it could even present problems.

Besides the features, I think part of why the 1600 is so much more than the 600 is that Serato licensing fees for that audio interface drive the price up.

I'm not a laptop DJ and use the Denon DN-X500 analog mixer and I love it. As mentioned, the input matrix selector is a very nice feature. Other mixers I've used (some DJ, some live sound) are Behringer UB802, Behringer MX882, Ecler Nuo 3, Mackie 1402 VLZ Pro, A&H MixWizard WZ3 16:2. Of these mixers, the Denon is my 2nd favorite right behind the MixWizard.

This will probably sound stupid, but until I can afford a Rane 62 or 57SL or something along those lines, I was just going to use the Serato time-code vinyl with virtual dj :$..

i've had a good experience with a Denon (another x1600).. i sold it recently. solid mixer.

however, my advice is, unless you're planning on using Traktor... hold off and buy a used 57. great mixer and the prices are dropping now that the 62 is coming out.

Would that even work? Aren't time code vinyls proprietary?
