in guitar center they have one for 400$ and another for 600$ i really dunno why one is cheaper than the other . but they give you a discount if you trade in Serato, Final scratch or Traktor 3

My question is cant u just get an Audio interface burn some timecoded cds and use them with traktor 3 being the same thing as Traktor scratch ??

I think the $400 version, is an upgrade from traktor

The "$400" one is the crossgrade offer. If you currently own SSL or FS1 or FS2 you can get a discount for a limited time. You don't have to give up your "old" hardware, but must provide proof that you own SSL or Final Scratch (receipt of original purchase).

All pertinent info regarding Traktor Scratch can be found here...

That's opening a big can of worms, so I'm not going to go there. Depends on your needs. Best to try them both out.

Probably not, unless you're talking about the Audio 8 soundcard. I'm sure NI is not going to let you use any soundcard for timecode control. However, if you get a Mackie D2 or D4 or a Korg Zero 4 or 8 mixer, then you can get timecode control as part of NI's "Traktor Certified mixers" deal. Those mixers have firewire soundcards built-in. More info on that here...

So u either need one of those mixers or an audio 8 soundcard ....right?

For now that is correct. In time, there will be more Traktor Certified products for TS.

Has anyone purchased or received this software as a beta tester? nem0nic, have you had a chance to try it yet?

I've had it for several months beta testing. It's starting to be seen in the wild. Guitar Center got some as part of a prerelease deal of some kind and there are a few users on the NI forums that actually have their hands on them now.

I'm putting together a little article kind like the one I did for Torq that will show Traktor Scratch strengths and weaknesses and also revisit some other system's performance. BUT... because I'm under an NDA, I can't release any detailed info until TS hits store shelves officially. I DO like the system enough that I'm using it full time and have shelved FS. The coolest things about Traktor Scratch are the things that only reveal themselves after some use. You'll find it easily the most resistant to harsh club enviornments (working with damaged carts/needles, in clubs with lost of low freq. feedback, etc). And it's hands down the best at the extreme ranges of performance (very slow or fast hand movements).

But I have to admit that the features I find more appealing about it are the holdover features from Traktor. It's implementation of independant key and tempo are by far the best of any DJ software I know, the looping functions are also sweet. It has amazing MIDI implementation, and I like how thier broswer works.

Can you navigate the browser and whatnot with just the keyboard, i.e. tabbing fields and using directional arrows?

Or do you still have to mess around with your silly little mouse pad?

I've been through so much crap with FS and the traktor upgrade blue screening and crashing all over the place. This stuff is basically worthless in a live setting as it gets due to the instability of both the scratchamp drivers and traktor software that I'm pretty dubious as to whether anyone will ever make a timecode vinyl control system 1/10 as popular or reliable as just having a cd deck.

Traktor Scratch and Traktor have extensive mouse and keyboard mapping possibilities. I would venture to say they have the most complete mapping functionality of any DVS or DJ software available.

TS takes this one further by also providing browser navigation and song selection via control vinyl (ala SSL). So you can navigate to a song and load it into a deck without touching the computer at all.

scratch magazine just gave it a better rating than serato
It looks like a solid alternative.

I'm still waiting the OK from NI. I'm under hte impression that today is a holiday in Germany, so I'm expecting to get it tomorrow. I'll most likely release my review on Thursday.

I will say this now, TS blows Torq out the water.

Hey Konix, can you hit me up at admin@nem0nic.com? I can't get my hands on SSL to do comparison latency testing and you own it. I'm putting the needle drop and Rightmark test results for Torq, FS2, and TS for a comparison. It would rock if you could provide screenies for the needle drop test, round trip test, and Rightmark for the SL-1 in your review. Then we could reference each other.

If you'd like any of those test results for your own review, I can give them to you for that as well.
