Hi all

Nice site, been browsing and looks like there's a lot of sound people on here so thought I'd make my first post to try and get some advice, hope you can help :cry::cry:

I have a set of 1200mk2's which are looking slightly tired and wanted to spruce them up so I have been doing my homework first so I make sure they are done right! I've decided I want to go with a nice pearl white for the decks rather than the standard silver but can't find anywhere on t'interweb that gives details of how to prepare them for painting. As I've never painted before I was planning on getting a car bodyshop or pro to this but I will prep them myself to keep costs down. Does anybody know how much preperation is required to do this job? I've been watching videos on how to strip them safely and methodically down to the bare faceplate so I'm just about up to there in my bonce. Do I need to sand them down? What primer should be used etc etc. I am also going to change all the lights to blue LED's and change the pitch sliders to those of a MK5 so there is no 0 ditch.

Any advice would be very warmly welcomed and I will post pics of the work in progress to completion. Thanks in adance! Top

Sounds like you know what you want to do for sure. I know the pearl white will look great. I've always thought that Technics should offer a white option like a 1211 M5G. you know, white with little gold flecks like the black 1210 has. that would be super slick.

Anyway, I know there are some tutorials on these forums for how to accomplish what you want to do. Keep searching, I think one of the members, DTR, has some good information on how to prep, and re-finish your decks. I'll do a little search real quick and if I find anything I will edit my post with a link to another thread. In the mean time, perhaps some of the other members will chime in with some better information than I have given you.

Thanks for the assistance JamesRoss and you're right theyshould make them as stock. It had never even crossed my mind to do until I saw this..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/technics-sl-1200-1210-custom-/251094681947?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiF i_Turntables&hash=item3a7668c95b#ht_500wt_949

When I saw this I immediately knew what I wanted. I already have the blue LED's, stickers, MK5 sliders etc ready for the mod (that was the easy bit!) but I don't want to strip them down to put them in to re-assemble them to do it all again once all my homework is done. I've looked through the threads on here but in all fairness I was searching for hours and hours and it does get monotonousness and then you can't see the wood for the trees :banghead:. I'll keep looking too because I am a determined little so and so and my decks will look like this one.

Thanks again, you're assistance and help is appreciated :)
