Review:
WOW! When you are in a room with these speakers, you will know right away. I have NEVER heard speakers like these before. It is better than theatrical and any other concert series speakers I have heard before. Once you start using these speakers, you will never go back to anything else!
Pro’s:
- The speakers are LIGHT! High end is 48lbs each and the bins are 69lbs!
- Warm sounding and very pure, you will hear parts of songs you never really quite heard before.
- When cranked up, they sound unbelievable; your ears won’t bleed till you hit close to max output. I had to put earplugs in when i was in front of them and had them pushed to 1100W each.
- The 718’s are very nice sounding, not muddy at all. The 1810s I used were crossed over at 200hz (EV recommended spec) so it is a very different sound b/w the two bins.
- The speaker covers are wonderful and are really good quality as well; well worth the price! $80CAD each for the high-end, $120CAD each for the bass bin.
- I had the poles done by a 3rd party (not JBL), H&M Connecting Pole with M20. This pole has a 3 pin setting for raising it up; well worth the price.
- The 715 has a dual setting, one for tilting it forward and one straight.
- Price: After you use the speakers, you’ll be ok with the price. Till then you’ll cringe.
Con’s:
- The caster set for the 718s were a bit pricey, at $95CAD each; which is the cost of a dolly for each speaker. The casters were of very good quality; though none are locking type. The bolt pattern on the speaker fits them alone, I didn’t see one at a store that it the pattern so if you want to drill holes and save money; go ahead.
- The coating on the speaker can be easily damaged if you use a dolly on them. Not like carpet where you can get away with stuff on occasion.
- The screws used on the 718s will wear fast on the heads if you sit them on the bottom without putting extra feet on the speaker. Personally, the speaker should have come with a set off feet on both sides (one for audio use, one for storing); not just one side.
- Price: Expensive. But they are the best I’ve heard.
